Surprises of the season.......

WE RARELY GET SNOW BEFORE CHRISTMAS HERE..............
........but Mother Nature is always full of suprises!

While enjoying a Christmas concert yesterday afternoon, followed by Moravian sugar cake and hot coffee........................snow flakes fell past the windows of the pretty church.  Before we stepped outside again, big flakes were sticking to the trees, many still holding on to their crunchy brown leaves, and the sidewalks were slick in the fading light of dusk.

We grabbed our wheels and hurried home slowly, amazed as always at the drivers who fly by us on the beltline even in dangerous weather conditions.........probably heading to the grocery store to stock up on milk and bread as though we were going to be 'snowed in' for a week!

This morning our little neighbor girl is already out making snow angels on our lawn. The quite unexpected 2" will melt quickly as the sun is shining and the temperature rising.  Our outdoor decorating planned for today may be put on hold.........plenty to do inside though.

  2. What a nice surprise, Mary! We haven't had snow yet. Today we might have some flurries, but I don't seen any accumulation in the forecast.

I'm fine with that. I know there is LOTS of snow ahead for us in the northeast.

  3. The first snow fall is always magical, enjoy it whilst it lasts.
I cannot believe that all of our snow has melted away, so rapidly, after yesterday's thaw.

  4. We loved the first snowfall! It was a great combination of snowy day and the amazing Nutcracker Ballet play. So beautiful! It was like being a child again. Love, Vanessa

  5. I agree totally with Helen, your first photo is beautiful. What a lovely vintage bicycle.
We've had snow for over a week now, and the rain yesterday still hasn't melted it all - though the swiftly falling temperatures and frost last night is making side roads and lanes here trecherous. :o(

  9. Your photos are beautiful. The white virgin snow is always so ethereal. How fun to see the neighbor girl making snow angels. No matter how old I get I still love to lay down and make a snow angel. Happy warm cocoa to you...

  14. I love freshly fallen snow, everywhere looks so magical. It's when it's a week old, part thawed then frozen with footpaths like skating rinks that I'm slightly less enthusiastic!

  15. Snow, how fun! As long as I can still get around, the peacefulness of a new snow is so special.
