Spring weddings come to mind - and Mother.......

Spring is almost here and a bride-to-be has some beautiful new choices for her big day........

It's many, many years since I was a bride..............and back then they never had such pretty things as these. Looks were more traditional, churches being the usual venue.  Nowadays brides choose beaches, mountaintops, country barns, wildflower fields (my favorite) and such.

Anthropologie has gone into the bridal business. Under the new name of BHLDN (part of Urban Outfitters) wedding gowns, special occasion dresses, shoes, and accessories are now available online, but not in their shops.  To see the lovely collection go here.

Yes, these shoes I'd love.  Not too high, soft and comfy looking.......and of course French blue suede is perfect for my wardrobe - with a French pedicure. Not sure they'd do well in the wildflower field though!

Size counts!  But I doubt this comes in mine.  Oh well, not planning another wedding any time soon......or any time come to that!

More lovely shoes............the back being gorgeous and will keep all eyes on your ankles (rather than your derriere!) as you leave the barn room.

Now this purse is perfect for evening - in fact so pretty I'd probably use it as an ornament on my dresser - too lovely to hide away between evenings dining out at the local pizza joint or pub!

Anthro always delights with creative display.......helping to dress for a wedding will certainly be another way their design team will wow us.  I can see these reused as gorgeous bed jackets - those of you around my age will remember those!

Never can have too many jewels........and interesting artifacts on which to display them.

Oh for the gentle days when real women actually wore dainty gloves like these, and not just to weddings. Back in the fifties and sixties my mother always wore pale cream gloves with her suits and coats, even going to work. I still have one pair found in the back of a drawer some years ago.  Wrapped in tissue.........they are very special to me, filled with sweet memories.

I don't usually report on fashion - I do however love great style, fabric used in different ways, shoes and more shoes.......and memories of course!
Cleaning out my dresser drawers yesterday I came across my Mother's gloves - perhaps that's the real reason for this post.

  1. Such lovely things! I too love the cream and blue shoes. No weddings are planned around the pond any time soon....but it's a good idea to know what's available, just in case.....

  2. How lovely to find your mother's gloves. I do remember those days of gloves, heels, and hats. I have my mother's pearl necklace, which I wear quite often even with jeans. I just love having them with me. It feels like a part of her is there with me. Love all the Anthropologie does. I walk in their shop from time to time just to drool. Most of the clothes I don't fit, but a girl can drool and dream.

  5. Mary, no weddings in our immediate future, but such fun to see these fashions. It is amazing how weddings today are held most anywhere, and often include huge, expensive parties. One of my cousins once remarked during the planning of the weddings of two daughters who were marrying within the same year: "What happened to church weddings and receptions in the parlor where nuts and mints were the offering alongside wedding cake?" I had to laugh, because that truly was what most weddings were years ago.
Lovely photos and lovely thought of your mom's gloves. Sweet memories! ~ Sarah

Such a wonderful lady and I still miss her and always think of her when I pass the house on my way to or from Emma's.
I reckon she is still using her flair for dress making and those angels have never been better dressed.
    Love you

  14. What a delectable post, the pale blue suede shoes are so lovely!
Your Mothers gloves reminded me of always having new white cotton gloves to wear at Easter & Whitsuntide when my sister & I were little girls, did you?

  17. So many pretty things! I remember bed jackets mainly due to seeing them in magazines...not having one! Though I must say some nights when it is cool and I'm reading in bed one would be just perfect. I certainly would like to have those shoes too.
    Take Care,
