.......as Summer wanes

Goodness, they've flown by, these lazy, hazy days of Summer.

I look about the cottage and visualize the waiting 'to do' list, but still the oppressive heat keeps me sitting here, talking with you, enjoying a second mug of coffee, finishing up my Africa posts....any excuse to stay inside where it's cooler. I'm reminded by the kitchen clock that time is moving on. It ticks loudly but doesn't bother me, I find it quite comforting.

Book bags and school supplies are prominent in the shops..........school bells, if they still have them, will soon reverberate from those freshly painted classrooms. Kindergartners, those mini-students dressed in crisp new outfits, their book bags often larger than them, will cling to mama's hand, most anxious to let go and join their peers in this new adventure, a few with tears, mama's often flowing too!

Just my thoughts early this morning on late Summer, new beginnings for children growing up so quickly, and of all requiring attention around my house and garden to get ready for Autumn, my favorite season.

  1. Your mosaic s beautiful, Mary, one to contemplate whilst sipping a hot cup of tea on a very wet day in Normandy.
    Love the new African header!

  2. A lovely mosaic, Mary and I quite enjoyed your thoughts on this late summer day. The weather still cries Summer, but the back to school sales hint at Autumn. I don't want time to fly anymore than it already does, but I am so ready for the cool, crisp air.
Like you, I don't mind the sound of a ticking clock. I think of it as the heartbeat of the home.
Thank you for your kind comments on my recent post. I sincerely appreciate it.

    Hugs,
    Kim

  3. Lovely post Mary. I have been trying to figure out where summer has gone. It seems one moment it was April and now the children are going back to school. My tomato plants leaves are turning from bright green to golden yellow...

I love all of the seasons, but Autumn is my favorite too.
    Hugs,

  5. Mary, I've been feeling the same. I sit in the cool of our glass porch looking out to the garden, knowing that it is too hot for me out there. ;-)
Time keeps moving on. I put off projects and sit and visit. Not such a bad life!
Thanks for this lovely post this morning........Sarah

  6. Your mosaic is so pretty. After such a long summer, it is hard to believe that I have to go back to work soon. With renovations taking place over the summer, I don't even know what I'll be walking back into. Hope you have a lovely week. Tammy

  7. I think I have been spending too much time indoors because of the heat and I am afraid summer is flying by. I love fall, too, and I was amazed to see the "Back To School" supplies in the stores! What an exciting time that was as a child and as a mother! My (baby) Abby starts her last year of college next week, bittersweet!

    XO,
    Jane

  8. Nice thoughts! I am beginning to think of fall with the heat we are getting right now. Starting to trim back the lavender and this week one more trip to the beach before summer is over. I love these days and love having my house open to the outdoors.

  9. Autumn is my favourite season too, August is always a month I just get through on the way to September:) It's pouring with rain and really humid here at the moment so I sympathize with your decision to stay indoors:) Heat I can take but humidity is a whole different ball game!

  10. I can't believe how fast the summer has gone by! We have our last little grandson starting school, and the oldest now in middle school! It reminds me how time flies by when you see them in school. I am ready for this summer to be over. I love the beginning of it when everything is new, but with the way this weather has been....forget it! I love fall so I am looking forward to it.
    Take Care,
    Ulrike
