Capital moments, and the CANVASPOP print winner. . . . . . . . . .

Besides visiting Loi Thai at his beautiful shop Tone on Tone during our recent
Washington weekend, Bob and I took time to drive around the city where we share
so many memories from the sixties.

My different view of the Washington Monument

The White House

'The Friendship Archway', entrance to Washington's 'Chinatown'

Coffee tastes the same in any language!

After a cold, snowy Winter, trees stretch their arms awaiting fresh green coats

Smithsonian Museum and Washington Monument

Whizzing by the Thomas Jefferson Memorial

The United States Capitol ~ currently undergoing a massive face lift to the dome

Lincoln Memorial - Abe's awesome statue is inside

St. Matthew's Cathedral where fifty years ago we said "I do".

National Museum of Women in the Arts - One I must visit next time

Built in 1888, the historic SunTrust Building.
Owned now by the Spanish Zara fashion chain

I lived in this apartment building for a while in the '60's when I first came to the USA.
It's an older building, art deco style and quite lovely. The interior had been completely
renovated so my place was brand new - rent $100 monthly!
Top floor, three left side windows comprised my 'efficiency apartment'.
My windows to a new to me world, and big city living. . . . . .
quite a change from my home in a small English seaside town.

Hope you enjoy the views and, if you've never visited, I suggest  you
go soon - it's still a wonderful city .

  1. Good Morning, Mary. Your photos are so beautiful to look at with my first cup of coffee this morning. I do hope to visit there someday. It's always so special to visit where we once called home. You must have some wonderful memories of arriving in the U.S.; so much to be discovered. Congrats to Marilyn and have a nice day. Hugs, Deb

  2. Awesome photography! I especially love the Washington Monument & Lincoln Memorial shots! I'm a mid-westerner but have visited DC twice. I'll never forget the feeling of love for my country as I got my first glimpse of the Capitol building from a tour trolley! Thanks for the memories!

  4. Good morning, Mary. Congratulations to Marilyn! Thanks, too for the code - I just may get around to using it!. Your photos of Washington DC are wonderful. Many years ago our family passed through the city and spent a few days there. I had read about the National Museum of Women in the Arts in a Victoria magazine and really wanted to go there. My husband took the kids off to one of the Smithsonian museums while I walked up to the NMWA and enjoyed a quiet hour or two there. It wasn't that old then. I'd love to return some day.

  5. I love DC. My daughter is there right now for a Native American Indian conference. The cherry blossoms are blooming too.

  6. Wonderful photos of Washington! You were a brave young lady to leave your home across the sea and settle in such a big city. I admire that. Thanks for the code for the art canvas. I wish you a great weekend. xx Pam

  7. Washington and New York are both on my bucket list Mary!
I've enjoyed 'your take' on the city - amazing images as always.
St Matthews Cathedral in Romanesque style is similar to my local Church - the same faith too!
I googled the NMWA and read about their exhibition 'Picturing Mary'. Having studied art history I'm fond of the old masters - I see the exhibition finishes on April 12 - a shame I can't make it!
Before I travel anywhere I like to research museums and galleries - there are such wonderful exhibitions happening everywhere, well worth viewing.
Enjoy your Spring days dear Mary!
    love
    Shane
