Velvet underground. . . . . . .

Velvet, like silk, seems to soak up color and turn it into something miraculous.
The fabric comes alive, saturated and bold, brilliant and beautiful.
Velvet upholstery and drapes - beautiful.
Yes, velvet is back for clothes, not just for evening, for daytime too.
I have a few velvet pieces hanging in my closet.
A crushed velvet coat in chocolate brown.
A black velvet top cut and stitched like a casual sweatshirt.
A skirt, short, inky black, and perfect with tights and booties under my red coat.
But I think I might look for more for a few more pieces for Autumn and Winter.

Do you like velvet - for clothes not curtains?

Post hurricane update from home - my freezer and frig are empty but
apparently our power was restored yesterday.
Our area has suffered and much of North Carolina is still under water
and there is much sadness with death and destruction.
Here in Northern California the rains are due - this last day in the Napa Valley
will be lovely and dinner will be on The Wine Train this evening.
Tomorrow we head further north into to rain - but I know it will still
be beautiful. Photos later from San Francisco and this lovely
wine country.

  1. I don't think I have any more velvet pieces of clothing. Love it on furniture too. Wow, the electricity was out for a long time.

  3. Velvet is, so I read, very 'in' this season!

  4. I like velvet, but there isn't much of it right now in my wardrobe - nothing at all, really, come to think of it. I used to have a very beautiful bottlegreen velvet skirt with matching jacket by Laura Ashley, about 20 years ago...

  9. Velvet is wonderful to wear. I have one velvet jacket, soft, black, that goes with so much. A velvet skirt would be lovely.
I'm glad you're enjoying your trip without worrying too much about your home. Such tragedies in this storm. So wonderful that your family cleaned out your fridge and freezer. There's definitely rain in the PNW - more is coming, we hear.

  10. Welcome home Mary. You must have worried while you were away. Hope all is back to normal or at least, close to normal.
I only have one velvet piece of clothing left. A pair of slacks. Must remedy.

  11. I'm not much for velvet clothing or drapes. I remember a royal blue velveteen dress I had when I was about 12 and probably wore other velvet clothes as a child but not since then that I can recall. I'm sorry things are so bad in NC and I hope you take care as you head into the new storm system on the west coast. I look forward to your photos. Take care and be safe. Hugs. Pam

  12. I wore a velvet black skirt during our civil ceremony 22 years ago. But don't have any velvet in my closet now. Didn't realize that the effects of Matthew had come so far inland. It's good your daughter was able to get your fridge cleared out while you are away. Best wishes, Tammy

  13. Velvet has always been a favorite of mine; it's so luxurious and wearable, and it's great to see it is apparently back in fashion again so it will be easy to find again. My 3 velvet pieces are black: a crushed velvet jacket, a swing style jacket, and a long tunic shirt. I think I need some color!
