What I'm reading...............

Happening to glance across at the titles of the current stack of books on my nightstand, I realized I'm on a world tour every time I hop into bed. Yes, I read several books at one time, and I always read before I sleep. I'm already excited at thoughts of traveling to these much-loved places this year. As for Tasmania, I was just there, but I want to know much more about that mysterious distant island. I picked up Nicholas Shakespeare's book at a used book shop last week and am finding it most interesting.

How does one read a pocket guide in bed you may well ask?  One page a night to familiarize myself so next time I can spot and identify quickly.......many of those African birds are fast on the wing!

What are you reading?  Do you have more than one book going at a time?

  1. I seem to always have more than one book going at a time. I'm reading the Prime Suspect series for a future review on the blog, Design Sponge at Home and Starting an Etsy Business for Dummies.

  2. Notes from an Italian Garden looks interesting! I am currently reading the second of the Hunger Games Trilogy. Not really my cup of tea, but my sisters are reading it, so in order to be able to converse with them, so am I. They all read the whole Harry Potter series and I never did....lol.

  4. I read "Notes from an Italian Garden" a few years ago. I hope you are enjoying it. (I may need to reacquaint myself with it) Lately I have found myself with several books going at one time. Each of you titles sounds interesting. Happy reading! Bonnie

  5. I only read one book at a time as I can't remember what I've read! LOL It's good to keep one's mind active though.

  6. You've got a better memory than I do if you can memorize birds like that - good for you!

  8. I just started Susan Hill's The Woman in Black. It seems most of my reading these days has been cooking and gardening books so this novel is, well, novel. Especially since it's a ghost story and I never read scary stuff... Just trying something new this year.

  9. Hi Mary!!
I am so glad you wrote! I so enjoyed looking at your new blog (well, new to me). I don't remember you traveling so much, but maybe you told me. Tell me again why all the travel - except for maybe the passion? I LOVE traveling, just haven't done as much as you. How fun the Australian trip seemed to be - I loved your Tasmanian photos!!

Thank you for the lovely comment about my book - I miss you and it was so nice to hear from you - you made my evening come to such a nice ending. I love your wholesomeness and how you just make everyone you meet feel special.

    Big hug to you
    Elizabeth :-)

  10. I almost always have more than one book going but it happens less since I bought a Kindle. I do a lot of re-reading too. I just love seeing how stories are put together.

  11. Great choice to have on your nightstand.
I'm rereading Ladder of Years by Anne Tyler at the moment, I picked it up at the Oxfam shop in Hereford in December.

  13. Oh we're so alike Mary!
I did a post last week which included some books, I always have several on the go at once and have stacks everywhere in the house - drives my husband mad!

Your ref to "Birds of Southern Africa" reminds me of one of my fave books - "A Guide to the Birds of East Africa" by Nicholas Drayson.
If you haven't already found this little gem - it's a treasure and you will love it!
    Let me know

Love all your posts, to lead such an intereswting life and are a great storyteller!

    love

  14. I can't go to sleep without reading for awhile. Your books are fascinating. I just finished the most recent book in the Clan of the Cave Bears series. Tonight I will start The Descendents. Also have short tea stories and Aphrodite by Isobel Allende.

  15. I am visiting you from Living Life on Main Street--Latane just happens to be my Mom--and I don't know how I have missed your blog before. Wonderful! Your photography is absolute art! I just finished C.S. Lewis' The Four Loves, and have started Townie by one of my favorite authors, Andre Dubus III. Have an awesome day!

  16. I usually have a stack of garden magazines to dream by, Mother Earth News to help me improve on things, and a book. All of this if only I could stay awake long enough!

  17. Yes, always have a few books on the go at a time. Surprisingly fewer now that my goods are packed and not being unpacked until I buy a home! But another one of the Scottish writer Alexander McCall Smith, The Charming Quirks of Others, is being read from the local (mobile) library at the moment. Just can't go without having soem books to read in the house. I have a soft spot for his Ladies Detective Agency stories also!
