This holiday season I decided to add rich vintage red
to my neutral palette. A few touches here and there
definitely warm things up, and with colder weeks ahead
we'll need the cottage to feel cozy.
The adorable Christmas pillow I found at Kohl's - 50% off
too which was really nice!
The perfect cozy throw from Target, not expensive either.
My IKEA amaryllis - they are faux silk ones but so
beautifully made and natural looking I couldn't resist.........
and I didn't have time to grow new ones from bulbs!
Here are my special little flocked vintage red reindeer
guys from SuzAnna's Antiques.
Brought them home Thursday and they have decided to
hang out here near the hearth.
My very first Christmas card to arrive - on the dresser - is
the always special handmade one from my wonderful friend Patti
in Washington state. She must have known I needed red touches this year!
How are you doing with your decorating? Time is now running away from us. This weekend looks very busy as the Christmas tree lots are buzzing, with people and saws. We drove through the Victorian section of our downtown last evening when taking a friend from Atlanta to dinner - it was still a balmy 75F and didn't feel really 'Christmassy', especially as people were dining outside in shorts! Then we saw those lovely old houses with their elegant porches decorated with thousands of lights, and Christmas trees shining from the windows......the season is here!
Today it's raining lightly and due to get very cold tonight - tomorrow perhaps icy conditions early.
Are you hoping for a White Christmas? I am.
I love those red touches in your Christmas decorating. So elegant! We're done with our decorating, and we took a low key approach this year. Ack, and we still need to send out our cards!
ReplyDeleteThe beautiful warm red really compliments your home. We have started receiving Christmas cards so I'd best jump to it! My house inside is reflecting the Christmas season but will start on the outside tomorrow if it's not too cold! Yes, would really like a white Christmas this year but only once I finish work and don't have to drive in it. Have a wonderful weekend. xx
ReplyDeleteDear Mary, Yes, I am hoping for a white Christmas. That is in central Europe. I will look pretty silly with my heavy boots and coat and gloves and scarfs and heavy sweaters.
ReplyDeleteWe have had 18 inches of snow 2 days ago and it is snowing again. It is so cold that the snow will stay until next year.
Your cottage looks charming and beautiful. Stock up on some extra special chocolates and champagne...you never know you might get snowed in. ox, Gina
Mary, I love the pops of red around the cottage and that pillow is oh, so darling! Beautifull all!

Greetings from frozen Fort Worth! We've been iced in since Thursday night, we hope to be able to get out on Monday. Our tree is decorated, tomorrow we work on Christmas cards... if I don't get out soon I may dust! Happy December.
ReplyDeleteThat rich red looks lovely and festive in your home, Mary. The sheep pillow is adorable. It's unusually chilly here just now, with a tiny bit of snow that will disappear when the rains return.
ReplyDeleteI always hope for a white Christmas - we've had just one since moving to Victoria 11 years ago.
Your cottage is so lovely and elegant. I have the santas up - as you saw - and a few touches here and there - the tree is up and has the lights on - hopefully tomorrow will be the day we get the ornaments on. Outdoors is as decorated as we will get - a few things here and tehre - no lights out there this year. The bathrooms and the kitchen and dining room are done.
ReplyDeleteMary, your touches of red are the perfect touch for the holidays. I've been decorating almost nonstop for the past two days. Almost there! I'm keeping things simple this year. Just not motivated to do a lot, and my creative juices are on low reserve.
ReplyDeleteFun to see your cottage. Enjoy the nice weather. It is COLD here!
You know red is one of my favorite colors and it looks beautiful in your home at Christmas time. It is cold and rainy here this morning. We might have freezing rain sometime today. I would love to have a white Christmas this year. We did have a dusting of snow the day before Thanksgiving, but it was gone in a day.

Mary, you have some lovely Christmas touches around the cottage and lots of pretty red here and there. I love the sheep cushion and your Amaryllis are perfect! No snow here but maybe some coming tomorrow night now. It's quite cold here at -9C (10F!!) tonight. Hugs, Pamela
ReplyDeleteChristmas around your cottage is looking fabulous. I do love your amaryllis blooms.
ReplyDeleteI started my holiday home tour today. Please come by for a visit.
So pretty!!
ReplyDeleteIt has been very cold here with possibility of snow tomorrow. Too much brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
ReplyDeleteLove your red touches and the decorations I am seeing. Our house is decorated, but I will
photograph this weekend after it is cleaned up and it will be tea party time. It is always
fun, but then I am glad to rest after and just enjoy the sparkle and lights.
Love your Christmas decorations! I also like to bring in red accents to my holiday decor. There is always a lot to do at this point and I am finally getting my tree tomorrow. I put garlands on the mantles and light them. Wishing you a very happy holiday season!
ReplyDeleteOh, I just love the sweet reindeer's! Your decor is just lovely.
