is for AZALEA

Before I even thought about a post for today I headed into the garden early with my coffee mug. . . . .and of course a camera.  A close to perfect Sunday morning. Yesterday's early rain had left the azalea blooms drooping and sad looking. Later the sun shone all afternoon and by evening they had perked up with much of the pollen coating washed away.

This morning. . . . . . . the garden is glorious. Clean, fresh, dressed for the day in full Spring gowns of various shades of pink. The small area we enjoy behind the cottage has become a joyful woodland. Birds are busy, squirrels too. This is one of those mornings when one really feels thankful for the small things in life, and the many blessings we have.

I really hope you enjoy this little stroll through
 my small cottage garden today.

  1. Oh Mary, as I sit here in grey old England, I am cheered by your lovely lovely garden, and wishing ours looked anywhere as colourful as yours!

  2. What a magical place Mary - are there fairies at the moment of your garden?

  5. So pretty, Mary. I think I'd want to sleep in that little piece of paradise. And a perfect place for tea. :)

  6. I am always in awe of pretty gardens with lots of flowers. It's probably because it is so hard to get things to grow here with all the heat we get in summer. Your garden is truly beautiful.

  7. Now I'm in love with Azaleas too Mary.
My mother grew quite a few and always tried to encourage me to plant some!
I should have taken her advice. I have a little corner in mind for a few!
Your garden always looks amazing but this Spring it's at it's best!
Trust all is well in your little neck of the woods.
How are the travel plans progressing?
    Love

  10. Mary, thank you for the beautiful garden walk. How wonderful to have all this beauty right outside your door. Most of the azalea blooms are on the way out here in Austin. We don't have any in our garden, but there are many homes in our neighborhood who have azalea plants that are decades old. So pretty when they are in bloom.

  11. Your azaleas are breathtaking, Mary. The first photo with the graceful, curving stamens that look like they are tipped with gold is just lovely. A walk in the garden with coffee and a camera is a wonderful way to begin your day.

  12. Absolutely stunning. The colors are amazing, every photo gorgeous. And as always, I'm enchanted by your header. Happy spring my friend. I'm so far behind in reading blogs I fear I shall never catch up but I'm making a start by reading my favorites first.

  13. How lovely your Azaleas look. so ahead of mine, I keep looking for the buds =, they're there but a long way off being in full bloom like yours. Your garden looks so full of colour in such a short time . It doesn't seem that long that we were seeing the laeves frozen from the ice storm you had. I guess your seasons change very quickly where you live. One day winter then the next full Spring. Loving seeing the Wisteria again, so beautiful.

  15. Mary, your photos of the azalea blooming in your yard are so beautiful. We are below freezing here again today with a raw wind although the sun is shining brightly for now. Thanks for the cheerful photos today. Have a lovely week.

    1. Pamela - it's incredible really how different the weather can be from your area to mine. It certainly makes such a difference in what is blooming and when! Didn't want to put a damper on your weather conditions by showing off our lovely blooms already - just really want to cheer you on and hope you too will have warmer Spring days soon! Actually. . . . . we are due a much colder day here tomorrow , possibly dropping below freezing at night. Mother Nature certainly can be fickle. . . . . in fact darned cruel at times!!!!

Hang in there - hoping today's sunshine helps you somewhat.

  16. Happy spring, dear friend! We are back from our trip, and I've been fighting a cold. Feeling much better. Thanks for your note, Mary - that was very thoughtful. Your garden is looking so pretty and fresh. I just love this cheerful time of year with all the cherry blossoms, daffodils, and forsythias. Missing my old garden, though. But fun to see what is popping up at our new home. Tom and I have started renovating the house.....won't move in until June. Cheers, L

  18. What a beautiful view you've given us Mary. The colours are gorgeous. That's the thing about spring - those colours that are almost too vivid to be true!

  19. I enjoyed it immensely, Mary. Your garden looks like a springtime paradise.
I have the very same azaleas in bloom now. It is a wonderful thing to live in NC at this time of year, isn't it?

  20. I did enjoy the stroll through your garden. It just took my breathe away and then with a sigh I settled down and sipped my tea right there in your garden. If dreams could come true.

  21. Beautiful garden, Mary! I'll have to be very careful in getting my patio garden ready over the next few weeks as the Bluebird couple from last year, I think, have begun their nest-building in my patio bluebird house. Thrilling to see them coming and going once again from my kitchen window.

    1. Thanks dear - it's become a lot of work, although I have to admit we now leave much of this back area to Nature - and she's extremely generous with her beauty at this season of the year.
Lovely the bluebirds have started nesting so close by - hope you can get pix later of a new little birdie family.
