What do you think of this little painted and decoupaged box?
I used to enjoy decorating these ready made boxes with their metal covers,
I also decoupaged terracotta flower pots. It was after my first visit to Italy,
an amazingly beautiful country. After two glorious weeks in the hill towns of
Tuscany, and the cities of Florence, Sienna, Rome etc. my creative juices
were flowing and, although not an artist, I could take all the lovely bits and
pieces of paper I'd collected along the way and stick them on something
rather than hide them away in a box.
Creative pursuits such as these kept me busy back in the day when I seemed
to spend many more hours at home. That was the time between retirement from
full time employment and becoming a world traveler of sorts.

I have a feeling this may be my last really busy overseas travel year.
More travels back to places here in the United States and Canada may be
filling our calendar. We have visited all the states and much of Canada,
but there are still lots of specific places we may have not spent enough time
in, or missed completely and, thanks to blogging, lots of very special people
we've yet to catch up with hopefully.

Now wouldn't it be nice to see you on our Island?
ReplyDeleteBeautifully done, all of these! Florence is my favourite city in Italy. My first marriage was to a Sicilian, and I spent 10 summers on the island altogether. Before that, twice I spent a holiday in Tuscany, and loved every minute of it. Since the late 1990s, I have been back to Italy only once, for a holiday on the shores of Lake Garda. It is a country with so much to see! One day I hope to go back, and then all the way down to Puglia and see Castel del Monte.
ReplyDeleteDear Mary, We have talked about coming our way. Hope we are still on your list. Love your decoupaged box and flower pot. So artistic and what a great way to be reminded of the favorite places you have visited.
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful, Mary. A wonderful way to keep memories of favorite places. I do hope, on one of your Canada trips, that you head to Ottawa and have time to drop by the mouse-house. hugs, Deb
ReplyDeleteLove your decoupage and yes, it makes it even more special if it comes from your travels. I've been known to haul a bunch of rocks home in my suitcase. Have a great time.
ReplyDeleteI love your decoupage box and vase. I love the one you gave me as well!
ReplyDeleteI love your box and the flowerpot! And I especially love the story of how you gathered inspiration from your travels.
ReplyDeleteI think you are very artistic, the vase and box are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for your upcoming cruise and holiday getaway. I hope Chicago (or Michigan) is on your list of places to visit in the future!
Jane
Your box and vase are beautiful Mary. I know I would love this hobby. Enjoy your upcoming trip!
ReplyDeleteWe keep hoping to go your way one of these days. We now have several friends that have moved to your part of the world. Though next year we are planning on the Southwest.
