I had another piece ready for today's theme however I just can't bring myself to post it!
I took a photo of a forested area and worked on it with my watercolor pencils etc.,
but it reminded me too much of the devastating fire scenes sweeping through
California yet again, with the clouds looking more like billowing smoke, and the
autumn leaves brown, crinkly and burnt looking. . . . .not a peaceful forest scene.

Instead, this is a photo of a 'forest floor' scene taken in my back garden - which
I must admit these days is resembling a woodland on its way to becoming a forest!
There are golden toadstools, green and gold fallen oak leaves, acorns etc. Worked
some with watercolor pencils. . . . .but perhaps it's best just left unfinished.
Today's theme is FOREST. It will be interesting to see what everyone comes
up with this time.
Head over to Michael's SCRIBBLE PICNIC later today.
Sending happy Thanksgiving Day wishes to all.
I will be visiting family in Arizona for a week and am hoping to get
photos to share later. It's been a while since I was in the desert!
Mary you did a beautiful job with your 'Forest Floor' rendition here, I love it. Happy SP!
ReplyDeleteHi Mary!! :) Your piece is very beautiful! By the way, we are fellow turophiles. ;) Dictionary definition is "a fancier of cheese"! :)) I definitely fancy cheese!!! :))
ReplyDeleteYes, those yearly brush fires are devastating. That would scare me silly. I do remember seeing a documentary one time about a woman who survived a brush fire in Australia, she said she felt like she was breathing in fire at times while trying to escape it. I'll take a ton of snow any day over that threat.
Anbd yes, you both are "turophiles!" New word n me but love it! :)
DeleteI know what you mean about forests. My sorrow is so heavy right now with the loses in California. I hope your friend is not affected by these awful fires. I have had 3 friends lose their homes and farm. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving in Arizona. It should be quite lovely.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I would love a woodland or forest as my back yard.
ReplyDeleteSo sad about the fires in California. Heartbreaking! It reminds me of the Black Saturday bush-fires we had in Victoria back in 2009 — 180 people lost their lives and over 400 injured, not to mention the tragic loss of wildlife too. It was devastating. My heart goes out to all affected in California. They are in my prayers. xx
you have family in AZ? I just learned that my estranged sister (who out of the blue got married a week ago or so) has just moved there. hope she can handle the heat, as like me, she's not been known to be a fan of such.
ReplyDeleteWell, you did a great job on this piece and a sensitive way to do it. I didn't even think about the fires when doing mine, weirdly enough, even though they have of course been on all our minds. So sad.
Thank you so much for you contribution and safe travels...again!
Your piece this week reminds me so much of a wood cutting. So very beautiful. I sometimes feel sorry for those that don't look up and down in life and just straight ahead. There is so much beauty at every level, even the floor of the forest.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice perspective of a forest. My mind just automatically went to the trees for the theme, but the forest floor is certainly just as interesting and amazing!
ReplyDeleteI like that - forest floor- like nature purposely fall just so those of use looking down can admire them. how lovely.
ReplyDeletehave a lovely day.
This is wonderful, Mary. I love how you captured the essence of Autumn in this piece. LOVE the leaves. :)
ReplyDeleteHope you're doing well. I received your lovely card in the mail and plan to reply this week.
Love you! x
Mary,
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry for not visiting last week. It was hectic to say the least. I like your forest artsketch replication done from the photograph - nicely done! Those wildfires in California are so scary. Did they ever get that undercontrol? I haven't heard anything lately. Take care!
