Garden chores with professionals. . . . . hopefully!

If the rain stays away - unfortunately it's possible it will come later - I will be outside
a lot today.  We've hired help to get the back garden cleaned up and of course I need
to keep an eye on things so the guys don't whack down the good plants, such as my
climbers on the back fence. . . . jasmine, roses, honeysuckle etc.

It's very humid at present and out front, in the hot sunshine, the hydrangeas
are already starting to fade. I should have some lovely heads to cut and dry
 later. . . . . . they seem exceptionally huge this year!
The dill seeds have grown, in pots, to several feet in height, and are so pretty
waving in the breeze, when we get one! I snipped tasty feathery leaves
yesterday to add to egg salad.

The first morning glory blooms are opening. Planted seeds in a large pot and
I'm training them up the front porch. In another pot are moonflowers with plenty
of leaves but too early for flowers yet.

I'm seeing problems on Blogger this morning - mostly with importing photos!
Realizing this is the day they are probably facilitating their NEW platform for those
who haven't already changed over (thank goodness I got that out of the way a
couple of weeks back). Good luck to all who have yet to get up to speed with
New Blogger - it's not so bad after all. I did accept help from blogging friends
and am grateful they were there for me. Anyone needing help be sure to
ask and I'll help if/when I can.

Enjoy your day.

  1. I hope the rain holds out so you can get your garden chores done! That morning glory is such a pretty color.

    1. Betty, it's a lot of work but no excuses regarding time to do it now!!!!!

  3. Oh I am glad that you mentioned that last bit about Blogger. I have been wondering what's going on all over, not just here, Another thing, the picture I carefully chose to pop up in people's sidebars for my post today has been supplanted by a photo from the end of my post. I don't like that one bit. Your post took forever to load as have a number of other blogs, yet I am longsuffering and tenacious. Hopefully, they'll get it righted around.

So glad that you are getting some additional muscles for the backyard. In this heat, it must be nearly impossible to get anything accomplished. I don't know how it could possibly any lovelier, but I know I could put a team to work myself. Do show us!

    1. Photo importing does seem to be very slow in the new format Vee - sometimes I can choose 4 or five and eventually they upload, other times they won't and a msg pops up, so I cancel and start over adding just one at a time. Blogger needs to fix that asap. Tenacity is a definite requirement currently!!!!!
Back yard looks a bit of a mess but at least the ivy/vinca is mostly gone and I can walk back there without so much fear of snakes! Some smaller tree starts cut down, the back bed by the fence now visible again, eventually we'll be digging it over and I want to plant more hydrangeas along there so we can enjoy them from the windows, deck and gazebo. A lot of work to keep us busy!

    Wishing you a beautiful day,

    1. Glad the photos were pleasing Brenda - I do find myself taking so many of the garden these days as of course I don't go anywhere else other than the grocery store!

  5. Your hydrangeas are exceptionally beautiful. I planted some morning glory seeds and they were doing fine but I think the sun has fried them now, even though I water them everyday. I am always hesitant to cut hydrangea blooms because I'm afraid the plant' won't re-flower again next year if I do.

    1. Here we don't cut back the mophead hydrangeas after August because by then new buds are forming for the next year. By Aug. any wanted for drying are ready. There are lots of online help sites for your own area I'm sure Loree.
Morning glories, once they get going, are very pretty, and the hummingbirds love them which is why I always grow some. . . . . though this summer I've yet to get a hummer at my feeder!

  6. Morning glory was so common in France and I loved to see them. Here, not many, if any. Such lovely garden glimpses.

  7. Hard for me to believe your hydrangeas are drying up already, when here in IL our hydrangeas aren't even blooming yet. We are looking for a landscaper right now...we desperately need help with our front yard. It got so messed up from construction work last month; plus we need some bushes planted in front, too.

    1. Mine, in front of porch, get too much sun really - face south so no shade at all! But I love them and they've survived for years, even being cut to the ground twice when house painting etc. was done! I do have to water a lot - today we should get rain all afternoon so they will be happy. . . . me too!

  8. I am so envious of your morning glories - I planted some, but rather late in the season. Some little insects or grubs, but I don't know what, are nibbling away at their leaves. Hopefully they will overcome being nibbled and finally make their way up their frame one day.
Your garden is looking a real treat, so green and lush.

    1. I had some slug damage to the lower leaves, but they keep climbing up the fishing line I rigged on the porch and are now up to the roofline! Hoping the hummingbirds find them now the blooms are opening!
Thanks for to kind words dear - I know my garden is nowhere near as amazing as yours though!

  9. I am finding importing pictures a problem. It seems like I have to do one at a time so I can place them where I want. They don't sit in waiting like before, unless I am doing something wrong. Love your garden and arched gate. Oh morning glories are divine. Every year I wish I grew some dill, but for some reason I forget until suddenly I wish I had some.

    1. The dill is awesome Marilyn, so tall this year - I love it cut to mix in with the peonies and hydrangeas on my dining room table.
Yes, photo uploading is a problem - FYI if you go to the 3 dots (options) on the far right of the top menu bar, and click on 'center align' in the drop down, your photo(s) will appear centered on your new post. You may already know that.

  10. I have been using new Blogger for a while and find I can't upload photos from my iPhone, I now have to load them to laptop and then blog - apart from that it's ok - considering it's all free I can't grumble. Your morning glory is fabulous. Gardening is so calming for the soul, this year we have loved our garden more than ever and it is certainly rewarding us.

    1. Betty all my iPhone photos automatically migrate to my MacBook and I write my blog on that laptop so photos are already there for importing. I've never tried to write a blog post on the phone, and doubt I ever will (eyesight poor now!), but apparently this is why Blogger is making changes to accommodate those who do blog on smartphones!

      Yes, thankful for gardens!

  12. You've such a lovely garden! Hydrangeas used to seem to me such an old-fashioned flower, and they are, but they really are my favourites these days. Yours are glorious!

  13. I kept seeing the notice that something was going to change on blogger but doesn't seem to have affected my blog in any way. Your garden is looking so lovely. Those hydrangeas are gorgeous. Well over 100 here every day so just trying to keep my balcony plants alive at this point. All the blooming is well over until later this year. Take care.
