From the cottage -

Today is going to hit 93F here - definitely not a day to be dashing about trying
to catch balls. Life is a game where we are always juggling balls in the air,
even a pandemic hasn't put a stop to that.

Everyday things continue to crop up around the cottage and garden.
Things wear out, break down, leak, drip, grind to a halt, die.
In the garden, so beautiful a month ago, blooms now fade, some die,
others droop, drop, fall over, give up. . . .and then the creepy crawlies move
in to suck, chew, kill. So we drag hoses, deadhead, spray with soapy water,
add a splash of fertilizer, trim back, cut down. Cross fingers a lot.

Are you staying busy with all those chores, keeping the balls moving through
the air. . . . .or are they falling to the ground as mine seem to be doing in the
heat?  Right now I'm heading out into the garden again, watering the pots
already drying out. Still grateful for the garden. Still loving the birds.
The figs are plumping up and there will be lots of picking ahead
late summer. The back garden will continue to get a facelift - when the
mosquitoes are fewer, hopefully.

The holiday weekend apparently starts tonight, although we heard
fireworks in the neighborhood last evening.
The celebration will be different this year.
Enjoy all you can during these troubled times - keep those balls bouncing!
 God bless America!

  1. I am not needing to juggle balls right now lol. My little garden is doing fine. Our weather is in the mid 80's. We do have a chigger problem out back, so Kent will be spraying back there tomorrow morning. Take care and have a nice weekend!

  2. What a lovely picture at the end of your post today!
As I have no garden and only my three rooms plus kitchen and tiny bathroom to look after, there is no need to juggle balls for me. But if you consider the different roles I fill every day - daughter, partner, sister, friend, employee, consultant, neighbour - that does require good time-management and some juggling in order to do things right all the time. And I fail often enough.

  3. Good morning, Mary. Believe it or not, we're already having the same hot, humid weather that you are. In the 90's as far as the eye can see for the month of July. Since our foliage is so far behind yours, all the heat loving plants here are loving it. Tomatoes are still green, but producing like crazy. Hydrangeas are growing quickly but still not blooming. My butterfly garden filled with phlox and black eyed susan, purple coneflower and bee balm are all about to burst into bloom.

Hubby and I just took a mile walk around the neighborhood before the heat really sets in. We're all sweaty now, but sitting in the AC with a fan blowing on us, and drinking a lot of water.

Happy 4th! We heard fireworks in our neighborhood last night, too. I'm sure tonight will be pretty busy with them, though we don't shoot them off ourselves. (We don't like noise and feel it's very unfair to veterans with PTSD and for animals.)
