I found such a great buy on potted tulips for the table two days ago.
They came six to a pot, just starting to unfurl their creamy petals, as only
beautiful tulips can, displaying pinky-red edges that Diana the Huntress
seems to find enlightening.
They came from LIDL, just $3.99 a pot, but providing more like a
million dollar's worth of happy feelings on chilly winter days!
This morning the sun has come out illuminating the tulips.
They've started to open very quickly, so quickly in fact that if I look
away for a few minutes they have already changed when I look back!
They look like this right now at 9:30 AM. . . . . . and I am ready for
a day of enjoying my little indoor garden.
I've had a difficult time identifying this tulip online but think it might
be - 'World Expression' - which I found on a Canadian garden
website. If you beg to differ and can share another bloom which
resembles this one, please 'enlighten' me!
It really is a beauty.

They indeed opened up in a hurry it seems like...
That final photo they even show the heart!

DeleteMary, we have no bikes here... Our bikes way 58 lbs each and how would we carry them and lift them on/off. That would give my dear Pieter a heart attack on the spot... We noticed that there are bike lanes here but we cannot roll here! 😏

DeleteYou've nabbed yourself a real bargain with that pot of pleasure, Mary! I had a mania for tulips when they were in season this year - bunches for the vase - so $$ but so worth it. The colours you can find these days are stunning.
ReplyDeleteAh yes, 'tulip mania' - I think there was a great book some years back with the history of tulips, and it was mind blowing. They grow well here in the garden except don't re-bloom due to our hot summers - makes them expensive bulbs for one year.
DeleteAlso, the squirrels did up bulbs, and often bite off the blooms when they are open - you can imagine my horror when that occurs!
Some flowers are fluffy with random petals all over the place. Your tulips, on the other hand, are so well designed that each petal, leaf and colour pattern looks perfect.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right. I always think of tulips as the cleanest/tidiest of flowers. These are spotless and perfect, one would almost think them faux silk flowers!

DeleteMy days are so much brighter with this mini garden in the sunny dining room - and guess what, another amaryllis (third this year) is in bud with first bud ready to open any day now!
So pretty Mary and they brighten up these dark February days and give the promise of Spring which is right around the corner. It is blowing a gale here …. the tail end of a big storm from somewhere far away !! Enjoy your beautiful tulips and think of warmer days to come. XXXX

I do look forward to spring but quite honestly love winter - its slower pace, evening fires, more hot drinks and thick soups, many more garden birds. . . . . .and fewer heavy chores both in and out because spring cleaning can take care of all that later! Yes, I admit I'm lazy at this time of year, and especially this one with my ongoing back issue, plus still being at home so much due to COVID, which fortunately we've not been struck down by!

DeleteWe can buy bunches of cut ones almost year round - don't know where they all come from, probably South America - usually sold while still in bud and not too expensive. These in the pot were a lovely surprise and they are outstanding in color, size and beauty.

ReplyDeleteYour tulips are more and more beautiful as they open. I've not seen this variety. Maybe they are a "Sport".
They are definitely a large single Darwin species, not those little mini looking ones! Largest ones are about 16 inches tall and one has opened as big as a teacup!!
DeleteI'm putting them in a cool dark place at night so they close up a bit - hope they last a few more days at least - so pretty!

How beautiful those tulips are! I can't resist getting them when I see them at Trader Joe's in late winter either. They speak "spring" which I'm so looking forward to.

DeleteWhen I saw your tulips on Instagram I knew I had to have some tulips. Trader Joe's provided me with a beautiful bouquet. I do love your stripey ones here and yes! They do change every day. I am always amazed.
