I wish I could have traversed the world during the
Golden Age of travel.
The accoutrements of journeying included pretty suitcases and hatboxes, steamer trunks, leather Gladstone bags, a soft leather handbag. Fitted coats, a silk blouse, and high heeled 'court' shoes. A soft felt cloche hat pulled over a shiny Marcel Wave style, seamed lisle stockings, a choker of real pearls, and delicate buttoned kidskin gloves. Elegance was paramount as ladies boarded ocean liners to cross the pond or sail around the world.
Well, enough day dreaming about the good old days. I'm off on a trip to the islands! I'll be wearing shorts, a tee shirt, comfy sandals, and hauling the trusty wheeled duffel bag. I have just one last American state left to visit, and on Wednesday I'll be on my way there via San Francisco. Meeting up with Paula, and friends Kim and Rob, and on Friday we'll be heading to.............HAWAII!
I plan to keep in touch with you while away as long as the Internet is available - if you don't hear from me though you'll know the reason.
Oh, almost forgot, the very best part, Bob gets to come with me on this trip. He'll watch out for me while we whale watch, tiptoe over lava rocks, climb volcanoes, and go snorkeling........and do come back later to see what we hope to be doing on Thursday in San Francisco, something really exciting.......before heading out across the blue Pacific!
How exciting that you have visited every state except Hawaii and now you are going there! Whenever I think of Hawaii, I think of my Mom and Dad visiting there in the late 60's. They came home with mumu's for each of us girls, a Don Ho album and a cocktail recipe called a Mai Tai....
ReplyDeleteTiny bubbles, in the wine, make me happy, make me feel fine. Tiny bubbles, make me warm all over....with a feeling that I'm going to love you till the end of time....
Hugs,

Have a wonderful time Mary, I'm sure you'll both enjoy it :o)

ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful time. OH and I spent a holiday on Kauai, the garden island in 2003, we loved it.
ReplyDeleteWow, you have certainly been to some fascinating places! Have fun and take lots of pics. (As if you wouldn't.)

What fun!
ReplyDeleteI remember our visit to Hawaii about ten years ago, we so enjoyed it. We managed to get away from the tourist areas and explore, took a taxi for a day's sightseeing and saw parts of the island we might not have seen.
Hope you have a wonderful time.
Dear MAry,
ReplyDeleteI am wishing you and Bob a wonderful time! I've never been to Hawaii, so I'll enjoy your lovely photos for sure.
Aloha,
Chris
We were in Hawaii last year in February – this is the best time to see the high waves and all the surfers. I wrote several posts on it but still have morel to write. Since my trip I have been reading on Hawaii’s history – quite sad. I still have 2 or 3 to read. You’ll have a glorious time there as it is very beautiful and the people are so welcoming. Enjoy yourself!
ReplyDeleteMary, I hope your Hawaiian vacation is just fabulous!! My sister is going back to Hawaii for the third time in April! Have fun!!
ReplyDeleteHave a marvelous trip to Hawaii with your hubby and friends!

Sitting here in the freezing cold with east winds whipping up from the sea I am not the slightest bit jealous!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your card arrived today - beautiful painting.
Have a great time you two and don't bother to bring me back a grass skirt. It would only make me sneeze.

ReplyDeleteYou will fall in love with Hawaii and so lovely that your husbamd joins you this time..Again I am so jealous of all your wonderful roaming...
ReplyDeleteOh how wonderful! Have a wonderful time. I can't wait to hear all about it. We went there on our honeymoon 35 years ago and would love to return sometime. However, there are so many places we haven't visited once that we hate to repeat. Safe travels!
ReplyDeleteLove SF, the city by the bay. I once lived there a lifetime ago. And Hawaii, oh how wonderful! Sunshine and sandles and shorts, but best of all whale watching. I hope you get a chance to snorkle with the whales, that was a lifetime high for me many years ago. I hope to go back in 2014 to celebrate a special anniversary. Have fun, dear friend.
ReplyDeleteAloha, Mary! I wish you the greatest time on the islands!
ReplyDeleteHow marvellous! another trip to come along on vicariously, I love it when you pack us in with the flip flops & tankini!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that Bob gets to have fun this time too.
Hope you both enjoy your vacation.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! You are going to have an amazing time! My brother was born at Tripler Army Hospital there. We lived there all of six months when I was 5 and Dad was in the Navy, and then they offered my Dad a chance to move his station assignment to Midway Island. We were a year and a half in Midway and I remember a LOT about it, and very little about Hawaii, but what I do remember I treasure. Would LOVE to go back!
ReplyDeleteBack then was an elegant way to travel, but at least now it is faster!
