Remember how I told you the interior of Cunard's Queen Victoria is beautiful.
This is the central staircase, decorated for the holiday season, leading to the
shopping arcade upstairs, and then down to areas such as the ballroom, casino,
British style pub, many lounge areas with live music such as piano, harp, jazz combo,
classical string quartet etc., and a walk forward to the bow brings you to the fabulous
Royal Court Theatre. All the interiors of the ship are tasteful, classic, elegant,
and I suppose very British.
Then there are the open deck areas, and plenty of them. Of course on a winter
cruise one doesn't get to use the wet areas unless you are brave and hardy . . . . . . and
have perhaps tucked a wetsuit into the suitcase!
After unpacking I took a walkabout to refresh my memory of the ship's layout as
it was over two years since we sailed on her to the Baltic and Russia.
You can see on the water sloshing somewhat in the smaller pool on this our first day
whilst crossing the English Channel.
My favorite print in a stairwell on the ship - I just couldn't resist adding an
appropriate comment.
Pool towels didn't get much use - the ship's laundry must like this season.
This is the larger pool, the sun was brilliant but the temperature chilly, and you can
see the water movement. I did see one swimmer there later - then she, along with
two other young women, jumped into the nearby hot tub.
As the evening drew in and the sun illuminated the lovely billowy clouds above the
Channel, Bob popped the cork of the complimentary bottle of bubbly chilling in our
cabin. We stepped out on the balcony, clinked our glasses, and hoped for a
smooth crossing as we headed to the often choppy Bay of Biscay and
Spain. . . . . . . . . . . and loved being at sea again.
We had a great time on this cruise.
It looks like they perfect holiday vehicle! I like the photo of your husband with the glass of bubbly - the picture of Happy holiday anticipation!
ReplyDeleteI love it when you 'pop up' dear friend - hoping you will be posting again this year. News of life in lovely Victoria is certainly missed - just hoping all is going well for you and the family.
DeleteBest wishes always - Mary x
It looks as if you and Bob had a great time Mary - can't wait myself to get the cases out and set off on destinations new this year.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to hearing about your travel destinations for 2017 Rosemary. We've only planned one trip so far, but I'm looking forward to it - new places with old friends - always fun and interesting!

Hello Mary! Warm greetings from Montreal, Canada! This is such a lovely post, and I thoroughly enjoyed the tour of this magnificent and regal Cunard ship! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful photos! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting Linda. Stay warm in your beautiful Montreal.

What a beautiful and elegant interior! The pools do look chilly, but I'd sit in the hot tub! That's a great photo of Bob with the bubbly!
ReplyDeleteLori we did have fun and the QV is just the perfect size for ocean cruising - approx. 2000 passengers, never felt at all crowded, and easy to find your way around with many quiet and comfy spots to enjoy, as well as lively venues if one prefers them! Of course much more to do on board than the small river ships, but as you mentioned earlier, we couldn't fault the Avalon Waterways French trips, right?

It would be difficult NOT to have a great time on a cruise when one is on a ship like that! I am very impressed, this is beautiful - but I doubt I will ever in my life be able to afford anything like that. Never mind :-)
ReplyDeleteYou might be surprised at how low the prices of some cruises can be! Check Vacations To Go - they have fabulous deals on their 90-day Ticker sales. Cunard cruises would be convenient for you as they often leave from Southampton, and some I'm sure include German ports of call - we stopped at Warnemunde/Rostock on our 2014 Queen Victoria Baltic/St. Petersburg cruise. We think a cruise can be the ideal way to see many places in comfort - hope you get to try one some day. Living where you are, don't forget the river cruises are amazing too - we loved seeing more of Germany that way.

It looks wonderful, Mary. I wouldn't want to leave the ship...ever!
ReplyDeleteI so enjoy getting to "travel" along with you and Bob on your adventures. That looks like a beautiful ship.
ReplyDeleteAh, beautiful! I've not been on a cruise, but this looks like my ideal. You have a lovely blog!
ReplyDeleteHi Mary, I enjoyed this post and the previous one of your cruise and trip to Spain. It looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteSo divine. It does rather look like the Titanic in side with those stairs so am thinking I'd have to resist the urge to go to the front of the ship and fling out my arms and sing! Haha.
ReplyDeleteMy mother so loved going by boat and when last visiting her, she talked about wanting to be back in Malaya or Singapore and her ship journeys of old that no one does anymore reall. (https://dottyhill.blogspot.com/2017/01/creative-tuesdays-story-behind-woman-on.html)
