. . . . . . and although still very warm here, autumn is in the air.
Early morning coffee in the gazebo yesterday.
Time to put the summer decor away and bring out some autumn color.
This was one of those weeks.

This was one of those weeks.
You know, THOSE weeks.
The ones when you have a lot of crazy stuff going on, stuff you don't have much
control over. For me, almost five hours (spread over three visits) in the dentist's chair
was certainly exhausting. Meeting with four house painters for estimates
was such a chore. Estimates are now in and the spread is so huge
it's going to take us all weekend to make a decision on whom we should hire
for the job.
At the end of the day you plop down in your favorite chair, with a glass of wine,
hit the television ON button and just want to be taken away, somewhere,
anywhere, to a place where things are calm and beautiful and you don't have to
think about bad stuff. Best to stay away from any news channels, and instead look
for cooking, decorating, history, and my favorites. . . . . . .nature/travel shows
on PBS, all of which are comforting but interesting in times of stress and strife!

Around the cottage things are a mess as we had everything cut down
in the front beds in readiness for the upcoming house painting.

It looks desolate and sad but perhaps rejuvenation is required anyway.

will go in later.

I hope all of the time in the dental chair is now over. That is not fun! I have had sisters and spouses up here for a week or so, they live in Naples, Fl and escaped before the hurricane. Luckily all of their houses survived, but they did loose many trees. They will be leaving to go back early this coming week. In the mean time I am enjoying their company, and anxiously waiting for my house to be finished. Have a lovely weekend Mary.
ReplyDeleteHello Mary, I just stroll (scroll) through your home and experience total calm. Thank you. Jo
ReplyDeleteLovely flowers! I took a high dosage of early autumn colours today during a long walk in the afternoon sun, among vineyards, orchards, fields and woodland.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful.
ReplyDeleteI understand about tHoSe weeks...ones where nerves are jangled and serenity is elusive. Anything that hurts or costs money qualifies. I just got an estimate on the flat portion of the roof and that has me whistling through my teeth. I just have to remember that God knows what is needed and He will provide as I lean on Him. Easier said than done. All that said, Mary, visiting your blog today was a fresh breeze for me and a moment of beauty and calm.
ReplyDeleteMary, I can relate! We met with a carpenter today. A few things to repair, then we need to have the house painted inside and out. Not looking forward to the process. And yes, it's time to get some signs of autumn out and around the house. Bought some pumpkins yesterday, and pulled out the tubs of velvet and needlepoint pumpkins. Will start with that, then bring a few Halloween things out first of October. Looking forward to a new season, but there is much to do in the garden after our hot summer. Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteI hope you are having a delicious, fall weekend. Just a couple days ago I got out the fall decorations. I think I am ready for it this year. Good luck deciding on the right painter for your cottage. Oh, chrysanthemums are such a temptation when I visit the market. By the end of fall I always have a new one.
ReplyDeleteEegad, I'm glad you survived the dentist, my gosh that's a long time...your photos are beautiful, especially the flowers!! We're about to have one of THOSE weeks this week too! I'm trying to prepare by having my glass of wine before it all starts lol! :)
ReplyDeleteYes, I know how those kinds of weeks go! I hope you are doing OK after your dental surgery. xoxo
ReplyDeleteI don't know how you handle the heat there but you do well with it..figuring out ways to cope. glad all your house stuff is done now...(As of November) but I'm sure more will come later.
