The Saturday morning wren. . . . . . . . .

Carolina wren, as you know by now, is my much-loved sweet little bird.
Our live-in pair. . . . . . . . sleeping nightly in the now dead hanging Boston ferns
on the front porch (those plants left purposely to serve as their 'hotel rooms'
every winter) . . . . . . have been nibbling on this seed bell to which I add
 peanut butter each morning.

Yesterday morning was a golden gift of cold, yet brilliant, sunshine.
The bird baths were frozen solid, the birds were hungry - Bob ventured out,
filling feeders and suet holders. Me? I grabbed the camera and spent time
at the windows just watching and enjoying the tiny visitors at breakfast.

Today is overcast, grey, cold, and a drizzly rain has started falling and will
continue until evening. I'm definitely not a football fan - but I do enjoy
a fireside snack (naughty I know) and a nice glass of red on a cold evening,
so guess that's where I'll be tonight. . . . . . . but viewing VICTORIA!

Thanks for being wonderful 'you' - your comments on the
woodpecker photos were lovely.

  1. We had seed feeders that were similar but I think our naughty squirrel must have tried hanging from one...which is now broken.

    1. I'm surprised this one is lasting so long - so far only the smallest birds have visited and nibbled - not many large birds come to the front porch, probably because we're always coming and going to enter the house! As for our squirrels - they haven't attempted getting on this bell - I scatter some food below on the ground for those little devils!!!!!

  2. Hi Mary :) Those birds are just sweet! Little sweety birds :) I love sitting by the window watching the birds feed...and they do need a little extra help, it's so cold out these days. Enjoy your fireside snack and your glass of red! Maybe I'll join you! :)

  3. Love this little bird at the bell. What a good idea to add peanut butter. At Christmas I showed my D how to make a peanut butter feeder with a pinecone. He took the two we made home and his birds loved them, but a couple days later a critter carried them away. So he made more and more critters came and took them away. Funny, but we are guess raccoons. Somewhere there is a stash of pinecones with peanut butter residue. Ha!

    1. We're thinking it's the raccoons taking away parts of our far too expensive suet feeders - we've lost several now and are thinking we'll just have to hang the cheap versions from now on!

  6. What sweet little wrens they are, Mary. Brave little souls surviving when water is frozen, but they know where to come for a delicious seed treat. Gorgeous photos.

  10. Your close up photos are always so good, Mary. You can see the individual baby feathers etc, Amazing.
I actually watched over half the game this year which is a first since the 20th century, not that I really carted who won, more as a procrastination as I was so tired.
