Strawberry picking time is already here in North Carolina.
Just down the road, into the gorgeous green countryside, there
are plenty of strawberry patches - U-Pick Your Own, or
roadside stands where, thankfully, the farmer and his workers
have done the hard work for we less agile/hard to bend our
backs group. I used to enjoy strawberry picking with the
kids in my younger days!
Yesterday we pulled over to the stand set up annually just a few minutes
down the road from home, and bought our second punnet of rosy, sweet,
"picked this morning" strawberries. . . . . . . and as they hope to be picking
locally into early June, we'll be back for more.
My strawberries edited via PicMonkey to a sketch, colored with watercolor pencils.
This week Michael's SCRIBBLE PICNIC theme is Strawberry - fresh,
sweet, healthy berries. Stop by for some springtime fruit shared by
our creative group.
Enjoy!
That's really pretty Mary :) How lucky you have a nice strawberry farm close by! I'm trying my hand at growing them this year. :) I can't wait to taste the sweetness! :)
ReplyDeleteLove your strawberries. I grew up with large strawberry fields. I never worked in the fields, but did my youth working cutting peaches in the orchards for drying.
ReplyDeleteThat's a very pretty image, Mary. I have a good little strawberry patch that looks like it will yield some delicious bowls-full soon.
ReplyDeleteYour piece is lovely Mary! It's a wonderful time of year.
ReplyDeleteLooks so delicious! It’ll be well into June here...strawberry season that is.
ReplyDeleteAh, Mary, you've captured the heart of strawberry season so well--from picking to buying "punnets" full (a word I actually don't recall hearing or reading before, amazingly enough). Your sketch is lovely an dI love the original you worked from. Great job there!
ReplyDeleteYour post reminds me of the 2 years we lived in Norfolk when I was about 7. Even then I was not a country boy but the one thing enjoyed was picking strawberries and blackberries for the day and earning a few quid...or probably just pennies to a bucket but for us it felt like so much. It was the only time in my life we got close to any sort of pocket money. Ha. As is no doubt common too, esp kids, I often would eat the fruit whilst sauntering up to the money changer man. Well, regardless, he can't have given much as I don't recall ever actually spending anything with it. My guess is that I gave any change as we was not working much then and we were (as always) quite short on cash. Those were fun days though. I will have to tell you of some stories form there at some point. :)
Thank you so much. Another lovely entry.
There's nothing like the taste of a warm, fresh-picked berry. I think you get the most flavor then. Enjoy the strawberry season!
ReplyDeleteGlad you're getting to enjoy fresh strawberries already! Looking forward to ours being ready!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully done, Mary and I too love picking the strawberries. I go with my son and daughter-in -law and we make pigs of ourselves. This was a fun choice by Micheal and perfectly timed. I am sorry you can't do the actual picking, but the flavor is the same no matter who did the hard work. I thought of drawing one of our picked baskets, but time did not allow. Have a wonderful week, Mary ...

Such a lovely post for the prompt, Mary...great job on the strawberries! I have enjoyed going strawberry-picking a few times with my granddaughters — we had such fun. The strawberries straight from the farm always tasted sweeter and juicier than the ones in the supermarket.
ReplyDeleteOh I love when it is strawberry time locally. Seeing your strawberries makes me salivate. They are so red and juicy looking. Yummm!
ReplyDeleteMary, my daughters went the other day with our 2 grandsons to pick strawberries. Jack, the 5 year old picked 3-4 berries and then started eating them instead of picking them off the bushes. Owen, the 6 year old picked for about 20 minutes and said it was boring!! LOL!! I love fresh strawberries. That is what we are having for dessert on Mother's Day! Jenny our youngest daughter is making lemon pound cake and will put strawberries on it with fresh whipped cream!! YUM!! ENJOY!
