This morning, sunrise at 7:14 am - spectacular!
This past Monday, our tree crew arrived to take down a small oak which
had died, remove large branches from the oaks overhanging the roof, plus
do a lot of pruning of smaller branches and tidying up of the now
aging trees around the perimeter of the cottage.
The now bare fig tree on right of the photo was not touched.
The guys arrived as planned around 7:45 am.
Fortunately the weather cooperated. Showers were forecast but never appeared,
it was quite warm with only a slight breeze. We were grateful that a crane was not
required. . . . .the bucket truck and some acrobatic climbing worked well.

with. We really appreciated all you did to make the garden look better.
You have made me feel a lot safer with those large, dangerous branches
gone from above my roof. . . . . . and my head when walking outside!
This great local company Leaf & Limb have trained arborists who work
to save entire trees, not just chop them down and drag them away.
We do love our old trees and will save as many as possible.

ReplyDeleteIt is a really good feeling getting the trees and hedges under control. We had a team of arborists here for 2 days at the beginning of December, cutting dead limbs from trees and hard cutting back the beech and hawthorn hedges by several feet. Our garden appeared much brighter and bigger when they finally left. But it is an important task to get done otherwise nature completely takes you over and envelopes you in her leafy embrace.

ReplyDeleteYou are lucky to have such a good tree company in your area. Our neighbor's trees that overhang our property are awful, especially her mulberry tree. Every few years we have to have it trimmed back to her property line and it costs a fortune, plus our neighbor is very nasty and mean.

This is a job that needs doing here, but they are my neighbor’s trees and he is not listening to me, though I have offered to help with $. Oh well. Maybe next time I broach the subject. It must feel good to have that job done.

Gosh, I love your cottage, it would be my idea of a perfect place to downsize, whenever we get around to doing it. Happy New Year!! xx

ReplyDeleteA few years ago we faced the same problems with our trees. We have not had any issues or old trees falling since and we live in an area of high winds.
So happy for you that you didn't have to touch your always fruit bearing fig tree.
For some strange reason I have always loved bare trees, especially if they are dead! I know, I'm a morbid chunk of humanity. ha ha..
