Birds - Blooms - Books . . . . . .

Mourning Dove

 Pine Siskin and Red-bellied Woodpecker

White-Throated Sparrow

Many of these and other birds are visiting the garden now - the warm days have
brought the songbirds out despite true spring still being far off. . . . . . . .

. . . . . . and my daffodils are blooming far too early.

One of my favorite reading corners - upstairs bedroom in good afternoon light.
Are you reading these late winter days?
My pile awaits as I plod somewhat through the amazing writing of Richard Powers
'The Overstory' - Winner of the 2019 Pulitzer Prize in Fiction.
A very special novel. If you love trees and are concerned about the future
of our forests, and the planet, you should read it.

Never say there is nothing beautiful in the world anymore.
There is always something to make you wonder in the shape
of a tree, the trembling of a leaf.

  1. Always...

My! The daffodils are beautiful! It has been quite a mild winter so far. Haven’t seen one like this for nearly forty years. I was hoping then that it was a trend. 😉

  2. I love seeing stacks of books in other blogger's posts, for I have found many, many good stories that way. The Overstory sounds fascinating, and is perhaps similar in theme to Wilding, by Isabel Tree about returning a parcel of Sussex farmland back to nature.
Lovely daffodils. We have snow falling this morning and our daffs are shivering.

  3. The Village News attracts me by its cover and title, though I had not heard of it. I love the yellow pop of your daffodils.

  4. I'm currently on my fifth book of the year. I'm reading 'The Strawberry Thief' which is the fourth book in the 'Chocolat' series. I love them. Enjoy your books. I find reading to be one of life's pleasures.

  6. Daffodils and songbirds already? Oh my! I can't imagine either of those at the beginning of Feb. We still have at least 2 months to go before we see any bulbs poking up and hear birds singing again. Reading is part of my daily routine, especially at night. I read The Overstory last year. The Chocolate Maker's Wife sounds interesting!

  7. Thanks for the book recommendation.
    Love, love seeing your birds.
Our mini daffodils are beginning to bloom, but they are about on schedule here. Soon the full size ones will open.

  8. I have been reading, and so thankful for the time to do it, though I sit in cold corners mostly, with an blanket on my knees at times. It won't be long and I will have access again to a sunny morning reading spot and a sunny afternoon spot for my reading... will need to acquire a good chair or maybe two. By then it probably won't be winter anymore. But I am really grateful for the image of your chair and stack of books, which reminds me of good things to come!

  9. What pretty birds. The woodpecker is cute, and quite different from the one I saw in Canada which was a bit creepy. Your daffodils are extra frilly and charming, and what a thrill to have them already - I thought it was still Winter! The Overstory sounds interesting - I am always looking for the next book. xo

  10. Lovely daffies! I hope they won't suffer when/if cold weather comes back.
I have great books on a pile waiting to be read, but often by the time I get home from work, my eyes are too tired for much reading after a long day spent looking at computer screens. Your selection looks intriguing!
Such wonderful birds, it never ceases to amaze me what great pictures you manage to take of them. Every time I try to capture something moving (like an animal), the result is disappointing.

  11. I love you are enjoying The Overstory. It has been on my TBR list for awhile. I hope you are escaping the most recent snow event. Hugs, Bonnie
