It's Easter and, as always, I get that feeling of childhood days preparing and
celebrating another special Christian holiday. It was different back then but
my memories are still very clear.
This morning I'm listening to English music I love so much,
Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Fantasia On A Theme By ThomasTallis"
and "Fantasia On Greensleeves" with Sir John Barbirolli.
In my mind I clearly see pictures of the Spring landscape I grew up in,
the coast of Devon, Dartmoor tors, rolling dairy farms, banks of yellow
primroses, thatched cottages and storybook villages.
This music makes me quite homesick but also brings me joy. . . . . . and
always hope that I will get home 'one more time.'
Of course several more times would be even better!
It's turned quite cold again here and those early sunny really warm
Spring days have disappeared. We are remaining close to home as rain
is falling all day. Tomorrow we hope to celebrate Easter Sunday in
sunshine. . . .and I will enjoy choosing which Easter bonnet to wear!

We had a thunderstorm yesterday evening after I wrote the comment to you that we had NO rain. Now it is quite chilly and dreary looking. Tomorrow only a tad warmer but still chilly.

Constant rain here Friday & Saturday, but Easter Sunday was perfect, we were blessed for sure!
Now Monday and the sun continues to shine but it's chilly outside.
Easter was very nippy here and today still chilly but sunny!

ReplyDeleteI do love a hat Hels - one of my favorite casual ones I purchased in Western Australia (Darwin) and wore it a lot while viewing Arnhem Land and the very hot Western Territory in 2012!
DeleteAlways that 'one more time'... Reading that, I think that whenever I go back north to my home county I feell something similar. Always I try to imagine that this may be my last visit (even though I expect it wont be).. to enjoy every moment and love it for what it is and not what it isn't or used to be. Happy Easter from here in Wales.
ReplyDelete'Home' certainly changes when one can only visit occasionally. Because mine is an English seaside town - one of the Victorian cultural 'watering places' that has been disrespected over the years, meaning a loss of upkeep and a fresh coat of paint - I see huge changes when I go home. I still think it will be like it was when I was a child, then a teen (I left for the US just prior to my 19th birthday) but it isn't. Still want to go home though, always will until it's an impossible journey for one reason or another!

DeleteNo one quite evokes the English countryside like Vaughan Williams. We've had perfect springtime weather so far this holiday - though Monday's not looking so good. With any luck I'll be able to get out later today, though my Easter bonnet may well be a cycling helmet! Have a good day.

ReplyDeleteI rarely play music when I am on my own, as I rather enjoy quiet surroundings, but at O.K.‘s we have the kitchen radio on while preparing the festive lunch we will serve the family today.
I know I would have liked your parents Meike. I hope your dear mother is managing OK - thankfully you and your sister are there for her. I have not always played music a lot when home going about the day, however lately I'm finding it quite soothing and have developed a love for a piano in the background. . . . . .and for listening to Hans Zimmer's amazing movie scores! Hope you and OK had a joyous Easter.

ReplyDeleteTrip already planned for 'home' in October this year - a favorite time to go As we did late spring last year (which was awesome as we had perfect weather) autumn will be a change. Sending greetings to you down under where it's now autumn and hopefully lovely.
