Peonies are always beautiful. . . . . . . .

I was hoping that perhaps my peonies would still be blooming when I returned
from Europe. They have always been at the top of my list of favorite flowers.
My late mother grew beauties in our English garden - she had a green thumb for
certain. As a child, I would cut bunches of fragrant blooms for the house and to
share with neighbors. People would comment on our abundant peonies as
they walked by our Devon garden.

Arriving home last Friday there were several blooms, but in no shape for cutting,
This one was just holding on enough to come indoors. It has shared its
gentle perfume all week as I've rallied from my sickbed!
The weather is beautiful - the very hot and humid days of early week tempered
by a cool front and some rain thankfully. This morning I see more buds opening
so will perhaps be cutting more gorgeous peonies for the holiday weekend.
Meanwhile, I'm much better and am working on those travel posts to share
with you later.

    1. Hello Elizabethd, I've just read your comment - do make sure that your peony isn't planted too deep as they will not flower if they are. It may be worth digging it up and lifting it's planting depth slightly so that you get flowers next year. :o)

  10. Peonies are a favorite here too. I wish we could grow them here in TX, but it is too hot. I buy them in the market, but like hydrangeas the price per stem is $5. ;-)
Thanks for the visit and thoughtful comment. I will respond with an email soon. '-)

Oh I love peonies and your photos are gorgeous. That is something I wish
we had in the garden, but for some reason they just don't survive and flourish.

  13. Hello dear Mary, so pleased to read that you are recovering. What a lovely bloom! Strangely, the peonies that I rescued from my late Mothers previous garden are about to bloom for the first time in six years, and I'm looking forward to enjoying them.

  14. I hope this finds you feeling better, Mary. I've been following along on your adventures but I seemed to have missed the one before last. I know what a trooper you are--you were probably feeling badly well before you mentioned it. Sending lots of love. And the peonies are gorgeous---used to have them at the lakehouse.
