The exterior of our cottage was 'disrobed' - a huge job removing old siding - and has
now been clad in a cloak of new siding. Wood trim repair took place where
required, some small roof issues were also fixed. All has been gently renovated.
Yesterday the cottage was cleansed and showered. which has already made

a big difference. Tomorrow the painters will arrive and hopefully by Thursday, at the
latest, the entire project will be completed. . . . . . . and we can breathe again!

At this point we are happy we have a small house and it is just 1-1/2 stories - the
cost for this work on a much larger property with several floors, a huge complicated
roof line etc. would be so much more expensive when TLC is required.

We have always repaired and repainted every seven years but with new
HardiPlank lap siding and top of the line Sherwin-Williams Duration paint, we
should be good for 15 years!

It's always nice to give the home a face-lift. New paint can bring everything to life again. Your home is always so beautiful and that cushion...oh my!

In my book, having a small footprint is definitely the best option. Will never understand the need for huge houses taking up so much land. Happy October!
ReplyDeleteI know it was the perfect solution! We love our hardiplank siding. We are securely settled temporarily in our "vacation" rental. Hopefully we will be in our new home soon.

ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about being able to breathe again when all the work is done. O.K.'s cottage is in the process of being re-roofed. That roof has no straight lines, no standard sizes of planks etc. fit, as it is a former outbuilding of an old village farm. The workers are meeting new issues with every step they take, but we are confident they know what they're doing and the new roof will eventually be finished - new attic windows included (the living/dining room is the attic).
I like your fall touches, Mary. I know it feels so good when renovations are completed giving 'home' a fresh look as we did ours last fall. Did you paint it yellow again? We changed ours from white to khaki which was a big step but we really like it. Wishing you a beautiful October. xx Pam
