. . . . . it's big one and I promise not to sigh, or cry!
As the seasons change, rolling one into another, Autumn arrives
and I have an auspicious birthday today!
Each birthday celebrated makes one
more conscious of the fragility of life. I'm grateful to be
celebrating my 75th in good health, feeling happy, and
surrounded by people I love and who love me.
As Bob Hope once said -
"You know you are getting old when the candles
cost more than the cake."
I love that quote and it makes me laugh.
Yesterday was granddaughter Jasmin's birthday also.
Turning 22 was a little less exciting than last year's 21 when
we flew down to New Orleans for jazz and razzmatazz!!!
However, we had a great time right here at home this year.

Happy, happy Birthday to you, dear Mary!
ReplyDeleteIt will be my Mum's 75th next year - her 70th was great, and she still enjoys life very much. You are so right, surrounded by people who you love and who love you is the best way to spend the day.
Thank you Meike. I recall the pix you've shared of your great parents - so happy they are still vibrant and active. We have to make the most of each day - they are flying by so fast now!
DeleteMary -
Huge Happy Birthday hugs, Mary! I'm still a few years older than you, but ignoring age now!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day.
You have the right idea Barbara - we can't change the numbers but we can make the most of them!
DeleteMary -
Happy, happy birthday Mary ..... many happy returns and wishing you a wonderful day...... and Happy birthday to Jasmin. XXXX
ReplyDeleteThank you for your London greeting dear Jackie - Jasmin and I both enjoyed our October celebration - even shared a cake and blew out our candles together! That was fun.
DeleteMary -
Wishing you a very Happy Birthday dear Mary! πππππ
ReplyDeleteYou have such a passion for living and having fun that I’m sure you’re already planning your next big adventure to some exotic location, much like today’s youngies are doing on their big OE’s!
We’re only as young as we feel and we’ve still got ground to cover galfriend!
Sending much love and hugs across the oceans..π
Shane xxx
If only those darned oceans weren't quite so wide!!!
DeleteThanks for everything lovely - and mostly thanks for your long time special friendship.
Glad you're blogging again, as are many others.
Mary -
Happy Birthday to Jasmin! Oh to be 22 again!
ReplyDeleteXx
Jasmin thanks you Shane - hopefully she'll get to travel to your beautiful country some day in the future.
DeleteIt is surprising just how quickly birthdays come around, and especially so as we get older. When I was a child it felt as if it was forever waiting for my birthday to arrive. Carry on enjoying your life in the way that you do, and keep on travelling and seek new horizons, enjoy each day as it comes, and Happy Birthday dear Mary - have a really wonderful, and special day.
ReplyDeleteYes Rosemary, they do arrive quickly now - just like those summer days of childhood that seemed to last forever but now hasten into autumn before we know it!
DeleteThanks for the birthday greeting - it was a lovely day, even though pouring with rain, which of course reminded me of HOME!
Mary -
Happy Birthday Mary. I enjoy reading your blog every day. I have had one in the past, however, had issues so do not post anything any more. Patricia, formerly (POdesigns)
ReplyDeleteSo nice to see you here after a long time Patricia, and thank you for the greeting on my huge birthday! I so appreciate you reading my blog despite you no longer writing one. How about starting a new one? Give it some thought - we'd love to see you back.
DeleteMary -
This is my 75th year also - I practiced being 75 last year and will still keep it next year - less to remember!
ReplyDeleteI love what you say here - practice does of course make perfect they say!
DeleteMary -
Happy Birthday Mary! I hope you have a wonderful day. And happy birthday to Jasmin!
ReplyDeleteThanks Penny. I can hardly believe I'm this old! I did get my hair cut after seeing my new driver's license photo - now that really made me look 'over the hill'. I love having it shorter again - long tresses are not for me at this age.
DeleteMary -
Happy day Mary. You give us hope that we can be as vital and happy when we get there. Truly a blessed day. Donna@gather
ReplyDeleteI know it's just a number Donna but it is a big auspicious one I guess! thanks for the good wishes.
DeleteMary -
Many happy returns to you both. Thanks for visiting me today.
ReplyDeleteSorry I got behind dear - this month and Nov. are such busy ones here and I have a hard time keeping up!
DeleteI always feel calmed when I read of your tea outings and such. Just seeing your colorful leaves made me happy as we are still not
seeing good autumn shades around here.
Jasmin and I both thank you for the kind birthday wishes. Hugs to you and Mr.J.
Mary -
Happy birthday to both you and your granddaughter! I hope you had a wonderful celebration.
ReplyDeleteWe did have fun - thanks for the good wishes Melanie.
DeleteMary -
I meant to say I love your collection of detachable collars!
ReplyDeleteSo artfully displayed too!
I remember my father wearing them -and wish my mother had kept them but who would have thought 70+ years ago they would become sought after!
I’ve just looked on my computers ‘personal world clock’ and see the time is almost 11pm in Raleigh so only one hour of your birthday left.... maybe you’re just arriving home after a happy evening.... whatever, I hope it’s been a birthday to rememberπ
Yes, I love the old fashioned starched collars too Shane - today's young men will never get to feel neat like our fathers, grandfathers etc. Do you have many antiques shops in Auckland?
DeleteToday between household chores, I've been photographing my amazing parcel of lovely items you sent - I'll be sharing with everyone in a post soon. You helped make it a special birthday dear friend.
Mary -
Happiest of birthdays to you and to your granddaughter. I think it's already tomorrow where you are, and I hope your celebrations extend beyond one day.
ReplyDeleteOh they certainly have Lorrie - starting with last weekend in Washington, D.C. I feel blessed to be remembered by so many lovely friends on this auspicious birthday - and the "happy birthdays" are still coming!
DeleteThanks for the greetings dear.
Mary -
Happy, Happy Birthday, Mary and Jasmin too! Keep on having those birthdays! I celebrated 70 last January. I was not looking forward to this new decade, then decided that I was lucky to be healthy and surround by those I love. Yes, we have much to be grateful for.
ReplyDeleteHello dear Sarah - my younger friend!!!!
DeleteI do feel a wee bit older - especially today when I went to town cleaning the bedroom and laundering all the winter bedding taken from storage! Each day is precious though and I'm glad I still have relatively good health at this three quarter of a century mark!
Mary -
Happy Birthday Mary. You can't be 75. What is your secret?
ReplyDeleteCome on now Gina - you know I'm no 'spring chicken' and hitting this number makes one think about a lot of things.
DeleteThanks for your greeting - just wish we could have partied together with our guys in tow.
Speaking of chickens - caponizing often comes to mind, hahahahaha!!!!!
Mary -
Bone Anniveraire dear Mary, I've always admired your style not just in home decor but also your fashion sense! So chic, so stylish if this is what 75 looks like these days bring it on!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday Mary. I hope you had a wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteWell I have to believe your age since I don’t think you would lie to us; however, I must say you are making 75 look very good! I hope you had a wonderful birthday!
ReplyDeleteYou know, Mary, my 73 year old mother in law and her husband (71) seem so much older than you, mentally, that is as they still seem to get around amazingly well. You have indeed good health and I'm so glad you and Bob have been able to enjoy these years with eachother as such, doing such amazing thigns. A true gift indeed. Make every moment count.
