January -

January is often fickle around these parts. . . . . . . and this particular January
is one of huge ups and downs in temperature.  How does one contend with
waking to below freezing as happened the last several days, and this morning at
 8:00 AM it's already 63F?
I'll be off to physiotherapy (yes, still working on the shoulder) shortly and have to
find something lightweight among my heavy winter wear. It will have to be a
short-sleeved t-shirt and a cropped trouser today (topped with a thin rain jacket) as
 it feels almost tropical outside.

No snow of course, but it's pouring with rain today.

Throwing on warm tops and bottoms, such as I did to go for my hair appointment
on freezing cold Monday morning, I also grabbed a heavy coat to snuggle into,
and trotted out of the house in fur-trimmed booties!

. . . . . . . .and then there's what to eat on a very cold morning.
This is my all time favorite hot cereal to get me going on
those chilly mornings. Luckily it's great cold too so I'm a planning
a small bowl with a few blueberries and banana slices.
I find all Bob's Red Mill products to be excellent and, like
King Arthur flour which is the only flour I buy now, supporting
great employee-owned companies makes me happy.

How's winter progressing in your area?
I have Spring bulbs peeking through - daffodils and bluebells - too early!

  1. This weather pattern has reached way up here...in the 40s today and raining. I am not going out in it. I prefer the garb of winter even if not the temps.

  2. It is 43 here at 10:00 am. Sun is peaking out between rain clouds. I would not mind winter so much if we had more sun!

  3. What a pretty sweater, Mary. It looks so warm and cozy. I'm going to pick up some of that Muesli next time I'm out. I like the idea of it being good hot or cold. Despite our cloudy, rainy morning the weather forecast promises sun this afternoon. Hooray! Can hardly wait to see some sun.

  4. After some days with temperatures well below freezing, we've had more snow last night and today. It felt a little less cold with the snow, and is forecast to be a bit milder still on the weekend - bringing rain instead of snow. I have yet to spot the first snowdrops or aconites.
The painting (first photo in this post) is beautiful!

  5. The weather is rather strange here too. No snow, of course, but some days are really cold and others are almost muggy. It's really hard to decide what to wear in the morning, especially since I have to get up when it's still dark and I can't tell whether it's cloudy or not.

  6. How I would love your winter! How it's progrKessing here...ha! I just did a blog post about it, as a matter of fact. Tons of snow and bitter, record-breaking cold. :-( I love Bob's Red Mill products...we buy the flaxseed meal, cornmeal and I know I've tried other products too, just can't think at the moment. The flour...do you mean King Arthur? If so, that's the brand I use, too.

  7. If you come again to Portland we should visit Bob's Mill headquarters. I have never tried that cereal, but should for sure. The next few days are suppose to be seasonably warm here. The daffodils are actually getting heads and crocus are on the verge of opening up.

  8. As you know Mary, we don't have the extremes of weather that you have here in the UK but, we are having similar on a smaller scale. It has been really cold over the past week but is about 54F today. I do love the seasons though... I dont think that I would be able to live in a continuous hot climate. Love your outfit .... hope they can ease your shoulder. XXXX
