Isn't there something about jars of red jam or jelly which make one reach
for the morning toast, biscuit, yogurt, even a bowl of steaming oatmeal, and
plonk a big spoonful of sweetness on top!
I still love my orange marmalade, always will, but sometimes,
for a change, I do love a taste of glowing red strawberry or raspberry from
France's Bonne Maman range of excellent jams.
Lately, for a change, I've pried the lid off a jar of deep, dark mysterious red
elderberry jelly. Homemade in North Carolina, we bought it from a roadside
stand with views across a green valley to the Blue Ridge Mountains undulating
across the distant skyline. Just looking at the jar reminds me to return to
our lovely mountains soon.
I would never have thought to put jam on oatmeal but now I must try it! I hope you make it back here to the mountains this year!
ReplyDelete. . . . . the jam is especially good if you've run out of fresh berries etc. for your oatmeal!
DeleteYes, we'll be coming one of these days for sure Penny dear.
We usually buy fresh berries and then freeze them on a cookie sheet. Once frozen place in a zip lock bag and keep in the freezer. We take them out and let them thaw and add to the oatmeal, but if we run out, I am trying the jam!
DeleteHi Mary...had a good catch-up this morning and enjoyed all your recent posts. :-) Your squirrel photos are amazing. I'm a jam lover, too. My son always says I'll put jam or pepper on anything, lol I first enjoyed the taste of jam on my summers at my grans. She always had home-made raspberry, strawberry or blue-berry jam and a hot burning wood-stove to make the toast on. Goodness, there was nothing like it. Enjoy that lovely treat. Deb xo
ReplyDeleteI reached just this morning to a jar of Bonne Maman jam for my toast. They are so good and I love using their jars for other things once empty. Yummm! Your elderberry jelly sounds delicious. Just last summer I began learning of the delights of using elderberries and their blossoms too. Plus, my daughter says elderberry is good for the immune system.
ReplyDeleteMarilyn, I have so many of those empty jars all lined up on the potting shed shelves - some containing things, others empty and waiting!
ReplyDeleteI love them. Bob's always working on a jar of Bonne Maman strawberry - his favorite. I'm always surprised when I check the jams in the UK - many more flavors from BM than what the sell here. We English grew up on 'bread and jam', jam tarts, steamed jam pudding, trifle with raspberry jam, Victoria sponge cake with jam and cream - you name it we had something to put jam on!!!!!!
Oh, and my mother made jam too - her Victoria plum, apricot, strawberry and Seville orange marmalade were amazing. Guess she was my childhood 'Bonne Maman' before the French version!
I have never developed a taste for marmalade, but I sure do enjoy a nice berry jam. That graphic is so cute!
ReplyDeleteJam is so delicious. I make it every summer and we use it on toast, and in baking. Love the image you shared. Did you create it?
ReplyDeleteI 'borrowed' it from a magazine and played around with it a bit!
DeleteToday I'm adding a spoonful of plum jam to my oatmeal.
