Well those few lovely calm and sunny days have flown on by and today we are under a severe storm watch. Possibility of tornadoes, large size hail, high winds, and of course thunder, lightning and rain.
We've 'battened down the hatches' here. Hopefully it won't be too bad and I'll be back tomorrow with a sigh of relief.
Colors in the garden this week.
The gentle Mourning doves - they pair for life and are delightful to watch.
Garden birds are busy, many are arriving in pairs to eat, drink and
seek nesting places.
Eastern bluebirds - female above, male below - but they won't move in there,
entrance is too small!
European starlings, not a favorite bird, but they are beautifully 'dressed.'
Cut a last bunch of daffodils before the storm - they could get battered.
Stay safe if you are in the path of these bad storms today.

Visiting from Weaver of Grass, and a near neighbor, in West Virginia. We had some very bad rains this afternoon, and hail. We were on the road and it was tricky driving, lightning, hail, and rain so hard it was difficult to see. I hope you fared well through whatever weather came your way. I certainly enjoyed your photos. Spring is beautiful in these hills, isn't it.

ReplyDeleteWe've had a mini blizzard yesterday, just as my sister and I were about to set off for our after-work walk! Ten minutes later, the sky was largely blue again, and we could go out unhindered. It is still cold, though, with temperatures hovering around freezing point.

ReplyDeleteThere is a starling roost near my house - millions of them arrive in the winter. The noise of their roosting chatter is like running water. Up close they are remarkable birds - and prettier than we sometimes imagine. One came into my house once and died - I have no idea how it got in - it was so light to hold.

ReplyDeleteYour garden is looking like a beautiful breath of spring, Mary. I hope there was no damage from the wild weather. It got crazy over here for awhile yesterday. I was sitting in the waiting room waiting for my first vaccine dose when everybody's phones went into siren mode advising we take cover immediately. Brett was waiting in the parking lot. As I waited to be called in I was hoping he wasn't being blown away by a tornado. Thankfully all was well and by the time I got out the sun was shining and I was told that there had just been a beautiful rainbow.
ReplyDeleteLove seeing all of the bird activity in your garden. The cardinals have been unbelievably plentiful here since February. Our bluebird house has a nest so we are keeping our fingers crossed to see eggs in there soon.

ReplyDeleteBut it looks so warm there...how can this be that storms are threatening? I will wait and watch to see a new post. In the meantime, I'm a praying person so will pray the storm passes by without troubles. The starlings are such an annoying bird. I had never considered their beautiful coats.

ReplyDeleteWe too had a rough day of storms, thunder and rain. Had to drive to Pieter's doctor's appointment early morning and for one hour in that inclement weather but on the way home in the afternoon it was sunny!
Such a joy to watch our birds at the bird feeders and two baths, from our bay window area. They are so happy, also their singing we enjoy while biking.

I hope the storm passes without incident, Mary. Your garden is looking so lovely, a reflection of all your hard work. We have the possibility of a thunderstorm tonight, but they are very rare here, and quite mild. The birds are so busy just now, nesting and reproducing. Lovely photos. Take care!
