It was far too long since I last visited SuzAnna's at their new location

 outside of Raleigh. I went once early last year when we were just

 starting to wear masks, and then two weeks ago, still masked, I had a

 wonderful visit there to see old friends. 

Of course couldn't resist doing a little shopping.

I brought home dried lavender and this bird art . . . . . . . .

. . . . . . . . . . . hanging here now.

Will be heading that way again soon - treasure hunting is so much fun.

Did I hear someone say what happened to "downsizing" - well I'm still 

working on that!

Have a fine Saturday. We're off to the market for fresh eggs and veggies, 

then a walk in full sun and 72 degrees - that's what I call perfect!

SuzAnna's Antiques - still the best!

 

Lovely things for sale at SuzAnna's this week.

A much beloved place moved from the quirky Vintage Village last year.  

SuzAnna's Antiques, still owned by mother and daughter Susie and Jenny, 

is now a huge bricks and mortar store located in the small town of

 Rolesville. . . . . . a pleasant 30 minute country ride from north Raleigh.

On Monday, granddaughter Jasmin and I headed that way in still hot

 sunshine, passing green fields and front yards decorated with pumpkins

 galore - a lovely day to be out and about. . . . . . . and going somewhere

other than a grocery store!!!!!!

Yes, I purchased a few things, of course! Jasmin did too.

My favorite find was this hand painted on wood white pumpkin - looking 

perfect on my mantel.

These small velvet pumpkins caught my eye being royal blue and grey - and

 are now sitting on the perfect plate from Anthropologie.

Old books, who doesn't love them, and how useful they can be when wanting

a splash of your chosen color when styling a table, shelf or corner. This one is 

volume 25 of the 30 volumes of The Works of William Makepeace Thackeray,

printed in 1907.

A stunning set of framed stems from Nature - Jasmin and I both

loved these but decided as we couldn't really afford the whole set

so would leave it for another customer who could!

I use to write a lot about this much-loved local place, the best place to

 shop for antiques and vintage. I enjoyed it so much I had a booth there

 myself, at first shared with my dear friend Vanessa ("Hi Vanessa" - in

 California now!), then we each had a space of our own. 

My granddaughter Jasmin enjoyed a part time job there from

 age 14 to 20 and 'learned the ropes' about decorating with beautiful things. 

  Life changes, Vanessa moved away, I started traveling more frequently

 and for longer times. I was not selling anymore but stopped by weekly on

 treasure hunting trips, and of course to visit with dear friends.

Life must go on and hopefully get back to normal.

The 'treasure hunting' trip on Monday was certainly a 

huge pick me up. Despite masks and distancing where 

possible, seeing old friends, catching up on news and

just being away from the house was awesome.

Off now to prepare for the aeration and seeding of the back 

garden area where a new lawn will hopefully grow!

A Change at SuzAnna's Antiques. . . . . . . . .

Although I no longer have a booth, I always enjoy stopping by SuzAnna's Antiques in Raleigh's Vintage Village. I especially enjoy it when visiting and finding my granddaughter Jasmin busy at work there. Now, after five years, including her entire time in high school, working part time after school or on weekends for owners Susie and Jenny, Jasmin will be moving on to a new part time job. Needless to say, many of us are sad about this, however she needs new experiences in the workplace world. She hopes to work in a health related environment which, for someone planning a career in nursing, seems a path she needs to follow now, and part time employment needs to fit with her college schedule.

I can't begin to tell you how wonderful Jasmin's years at SuzAnna's have been, both for her, us, and hopefully for Susie and Jenny. She was treated kindly and taught so much by the loveliest mother and daughter team, experts in the world of antiques and vintage. From a somewhat shy 14 year old who was nervous making change - the old fashioned way by counting back rather than a computerized cash register - and being somewhat reticent in stepping forward to assist customers, Jasmin soon bloomed. She learned how to help customers choose treasures for their homes, designed lovely vignettes and displays within the shop, and being a kind and helpful person to work alongside, made great friendships with her co-workers. I think she'll be missed by many at the entire Vintage Village location,  but I know she'll be stopping by to keep in touch, perhaps even work a few hours if they need help on special occasions, and of course I'll often be with her doing my usual treasure hunting and sharing here what I find tucked away in that great place.

Past and present. . . . . 

 . . . . .  . life is always changing.

Thankfully many of us enjoy holding on to the past, and places such 

as SuzAnna's Antiques make the present so enjoyable

Hello. It's been a while since I stopped by SuzAnna's Antiques 

 but I was there this week, giving my granddaughter Jasmin a hug in between

 her assisting and serving customers, and also busy dusting ready for a

photoshoot for the North Carolina magazine 'OUR STATE' on the

following day. The article will be in an upcoming edition and I just know

mom and daughter owners, Susie and Jenny, must be excited. 

We have a subscription to this excellent publication and look forward 

to seeing our good friends in print.

Winter has a way of keeping me snug at home just looking at my own 

old stuff vintage treasures, repositioning, organizing, setting up in vignettes,

and then thinking I should get rid of stuff. . . . . . so I can treasure hunt for 

more new old things, haha!

You who love the treasure hunting game know what I mean.

Here are a few things few caught my eye. 

Hopefully Springtime will get me in the mood for some treasure hunting and new places.

As you've probably noticed, not much travel has been happening lately, 

however we hope to be doing some in the upcoming months.

. . . . . and a little REMINDER to myself. . . . . .before traveling again, I must write posts
 on several more fabulous places I visited in France last September/October.

Springtime at SuzAnna's Antiques. . . . . . . . . . .

Yesterday, a cool and breezy but bright sunshiny day, I stopped by SuzAnna's Antiques 

when I was doing a late afternoon run for a few groceries from Trader Joe's. 

People were out - gals shopping diligently now the 'decorating gene' has been 

kick started with the better weather, a few husbands and boyfriends tagging along, 

such as mine - husband, not boyfriend of course! 

Kids were playing around the Vintage Village complex and all in all 

everyone seemed cheery now that Spring is here. 

Granddaughter Jasmin was working at SuzAnna's - her smile is always 

enough to make me happy - come rain or shine.

So I looked around, not for anything in particular as I have no pressing interior projects 

planned for Spring. The exterior such as porch, deck, gazebo and garden need mainly

manual labor and TLC rather than decoration this year - enough said on that daunting subject! 

Of course I took a few photos to share with you as many of you love antiquing, thrifting

and treasure hunting.

The Easter decor was arriving and there will be a lot more displayed this coming week.

I have my collection of white rabbits out of storage and will be playing with 

them soon.

These vintage extension rules I almost brought home!  Bob slapped my hand 

as I reached for them and told me I didn't need them. 

Of course I really don't, but they are so neat and reminded me of the one 

my parents used for measuring when I was growing up.

I do love the pair of lamps. I didn't read the tag so not sure of the style - classical, 

art deco? They are in great condition though and would be so attractive 

in the right room.

Lovely glass dessert bowls - makes one thinks of whipping up a fluffy mousse, 

or later churning some homemade ice cream - do you do that!

Hats? No, Easter bonnets!

Never thought of using a chandelier as a hat rack - how perfect. 

These were really pretty 'bonnets' and, as I love hats, I slapped my own hand 

before reaching for one. 

I really think the woven straw cloche is awesome - I can see Lady Mary

or Lady Edith wearing this one on a Spring day around the spectacular grounds 

of Downton Abbey. Do you agree?

That was a quick walk through SuzAnna's Antiques. Now the weather is warming 

I'll get back more often. The merchandise changes rapidly at this very popular 

venue - if you see something you like, don't wait because it will probably be 

at somebody's home later today.

SuzAnna's ladies and treasures. . . . . .

I did get to SuzAnna's Antiques at the Vintage Village Saturday afternoon.  

I did not get a lot of pics to share as I spent too much time chatting!  
The girls working included blonde owner Susie, Courtney - now more red-haired 
than me, and my dark-haired granddaughter Jasmin. . . . . . making the tiny 
office/check-out area chock-full of beautiful women! I should have just taken 
a photo of them but forgot.

Also, Bob tagged along with me and, for once, actually picked up pieces of china, 

turned them over and read the marks to me. . . . . ."Mary, look at this one, do you like it, 

it was made in England". . . . . handing me a very pretty pink Mason's transferware bowl.

Yes I liked it, but since I no longer collect pink I made him put it down. Now, if blue or 
grey, I would have grabbed it from him, pulled out my cash, and it would be here on a 

shelf all freshly washed and shining, and being photographed to show you. 
Someone else will definitely love it and give it a new home I'm sure.

The entire weekend we enjoyed much better weather at long last, and 

it's continuing with temperatures reaching the low 70's each day. 

Shopping and treasure hunting is definitely on the upswing 

in these parts!
