You have to love 'em..........................

I know, it's always an on again off again love affair when it comes to these garden visitors!
Here in the southeastern US, like most homeowners, we have to share our land with the grey squirrels. In all honesty I suppose they are nice enough to share their land with us as they were probably here first!

Click on pics to enlarge.

Hope you put aside thoughts of pesky birdseed stealing,
feeder chewing, porch rail gnawing varmints
when you see just how cute they look calmly eating and
playing on a sunny, snowy day.

You have been so kind with comments regarding my recent bird images, thank you. Again I want to just let you know all these squirrel pics were taken through my windows - and yes, they are a bit grimy, hopefully the window cleaner (me!) will get to work on them come Spring.
For all these squirrel images I used the Nikon Coolpix S6400 set on auto, and PicMonkey for cropping and editing.
Don't you agree these handy little point and shoot digital cameras are just getting better and better?

  1. Dear Mary, I can't believe that all of your great shots of birds and squirrels are taken through your window. Thank you for also giving away your camera secrets.

  2. I could sit by your window all day long and be entertained by these little varmints! Great shots!

  3. Love the one sitting on the birdbath and looking right at you! Squirrels can do such damage to a home for being such cuddly, cute little critters.

  4. Hello Mary! Your squirrel visitors look very cute indeed in these point-and-shoot photos of yours. And I just perused the previous bird post too - really marvelous photos. Yes, I agree, it is quite amazing what cameras can do these days, and for that I think we are all quite grateful. Blogging just would not be blogging without them.

  5. Oh yes, squirrels and the bird feeders. We fought them for a long time,
but now just let them be. They are fun to watch indeed.
Point and shot cameras do an amazing job here, but it is the artist in you
that presses the button and frames them just so.

  6. Wonderful squirrel pictures Mary. I really don't mind them, since we have a squirrel proof feeder. They hang around under the feeder looking for dropped seeds.

  7. Aww they are so cute - sadly we don't have them in NZ.
I've only ever seen them twice and that was in England a few years ago!
We have hundreds of destructive possums!

  8. More awesome photos, Mary. I do see how cute these critters are, but honestly the ones on our property have reached their limit with me. They've destroyed two sets of outdoor cushions, and the cushion covers.

  9. Your squirrel pictures are so clear! I took some squirrel pictures too, through my window, but they are certainly not as good, nor my bird pictures. But we have screens in front of the windows - maybe that could be one of the factors. We placed some squirrel food on the ground because it was so cold out and snowy too.

  10. Mary, you took some really great photos of the squirrels through your windows! I noticed 5 of the little red ones in our yard yesterday. They were enjoying the seeds on the ground from the feeders and love to dig for the maple seeds that fell from the trees in the fall. They are really hungry!

  12. I know squirrels can be a nuisance to some, but these are so adorable. Your pics are so crystal clear with your point and shoot! I love pics of little critters romping in the snow!

  13. Oh Mary I love my squirrels. They keep me on my toes and entertained throughout the year. Yes, they rob the bird feeders, chew on the outdoor furniture and drop acorns and twigs on my head, but I do love 'em. Have a wonderful weekend! Bonnie

  14. Wonderful shots of your backyard squirrels, Mary. We see many of them outside our windows too. Now that I have found a squirrel proof feeder that works, I don't mind them as much. We have had them in our attic before and spent lots of $ to have them captured and taken away. That was not fun :(.
Despite all of that, I must admit they are cute little creatures.

  15. Such fun photos of your squirrels. While away this past week, I watched one popping in and out of a hole in the snow at my sister-in-law's home. Then it climbed a tree and leaped from that tree to the neighbouring one. Such agility.
