Before I start adding Christmas decor to the cottage I need to do some dusting
moving of items, reorganization etc. - as you can see I'm not exactly a minimalist.
I did want to share the tall decoupaged 'rose pot' before moving it as I mentioned
recently to dear blog friend Gina that I used to paint and embellish clay pots.
Most I sold on through a local shop, but have a few I kept, this being my favorite
as I love dragonflies.
I've not started on Christmas decorating yet other than buying poinsettias for
the staircase a couple of days ago - and whilst there at the garden center I picked
up this small pot of ivy which I'll probably work into my dining table centerpiece.
I know I'm not purchasing any new factory-made ornaments, I don't need any
and, when I looked at prices of some beauties at the garden center gift shop,
I almost fell over from shock!

This afternoon I'm attending a Christmas music concert. This evening I will
complete the Christmas cards ready for mailing on Monday - I promised myself
no decorating until they were done.
Tomorrow Bob will assist with getting the boxes down from the attic and
I'll wave my wand work hard to bring the magic of Christmas to the cottage. . . .
. . . . and I just bet most of you are way ahead of me, right?

The sage and cream color theme is beautiful and if you did pots like that for sale I bet you sold a ton.

Gina I would love to do more some day - if only there were more hours in a day! Those were actually German made clay pots and I used to find them in Target of all places. They were beautifully made, so smooth and ready immediately for paint and paper. Then they just all disappeared and I've never been able to find them elsewhere - this was probably 12-15 years ago.

Not way ahead of you, but I did get the tree up and decorated night before last. Thought I'd get more done, but a head cold has me lagging behind. Perhaps I'll get a bit more done tonight. ;-)
ReplyDeleteYour pot is lovely! Enjoy the process of decorating. It's nice when all is done and one can sit back and enjoy a cup of tea wit the light twinkling near by.
Cards mailed, but house a mess! A bare tree sits waiting for twinkles. Lovely pot with the decoupage.
ReplyDeleteWe are dong the same thing---Christmas cards. I simply love everything about that, an early December 'must/happily' do. Tomorrow A will haul up the bins with a lot of direction from me! And I will have to pack away some of the last bit of fall and even existing decor to make room for Christmas. SO much work but it's so, so uplifting. :)

ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing what you do when you re-arrange & decorate the dresser for Christmas. It looks charming to me as it is. You certainly are not alone in not yet decorating your home for Christmas. I'm still contemplating what style this year. usually I try to keep to a colour theme silver or gold with red, however I've in the English home decorating magazines I've seen lots of all white this year, which looks lovely with lots of tree lights. At the moment I'm looking back on previous years photos,for inspiration, so I might get started this afternoon. I've just found some of the smooth tall flowerpots at a local junk shop, I loved the way you had decoupaged yours. so I think mine will be getting some paint on them soon.

ReplyDeleteI keep telling myself that Christmas is not a race to finish but a season in which to enjoy each moment. It's hard when there's so very much to do. I've been crossing things off my list as unimportant. There's been a little decorating done here, but we use a real tree and don't want it up too early or it will be bare twigs by the end of December. Enjoy creating a beautiful season in your home, and I look forward to seeing bits and pieces when it's done.
