Phew! I feel a bit like this today after so much weekend baking.
Bob propped me up by staying out of my hair all those hours in the kitchen.
I like to get on with my baking with Christmas music, no conversation,
and a nice glass of Harvey's Bristol Cream sherry nearby!
Memories of childhood Christmas baking days with
my mother fill my thoughts and make me happy.
The kitchen is now a mess with a layer flour everywhere, bits of pastry
dough stuck on the floor, a raisin or two rolling under the island,
and sticky handles on the refrigerator. I hate a grubby kitchen
so you know what I'll be doing today.
BTW, I love my pair of woolly mice - bought in Asheville, NC last year -
they came out of the storage box again for Christmas. I think they'll be
staying around from now on, not going back into hiding. I can see them
depicting happenings in our daily life through all the months ahead - so
keep an eye out for them when I post in the new year.
Their names you may ask? Why Bob and Mary of course!
Yes, today I start some house cleaning now the messy bits of making
the cottage festive are completed.
With an open house on Christmas Eve - come and gobble
up the goodies if you're nearby - I do like the house to sparkle in the candlelight.
We still have not started burning our wood due to continued warm weather so
the dust is not bad - but a fire in the hearth will be enjoyed over Christmas
even if we have to keep the doors open!
I'm glad someone else makes a mess in the kitchen. Mine looked like that last night and probably will till Christmas night.
ReplyDelete"Hello Bob and Mary. How cute are you two." :)Glad the sticky part is over for you Mary and now it's time to tidy up and relax 'til Christmas Eve. A glass of sherry sounds good right about now. I am finally done all my prep, too and will enjoy a couple of days of trying some new treats and carrying on with Christmas movie watching. Love your holiday decor...especially that cushion. *swoon* Deb
ReplyDeleteThat sound rather typical of this time of year no matter what part of the world you live in. Happy Christmas to you dear friend. Just love your exhausted mice!
ReplyDeleteMary, I had to smile at your comment about propping you up. I spent two days baking and by last evening was stretched out on the floor exhausted. My back was aching. I'd never make it as a full time baker. '-)
ReplyDeleteYour little couple is adorable. They remind me of a pair that live here, though my little mice are dressed for the holidays in their best tartan attire bearing gifts.
Enjoy the week.........Merry, Merry!
I wish I was nearby to stop for your open house. We will be having one on Sunday after Christmas, so the baking commences tomorrow. I do love seeing your Bob and Mary and look forward to their antics in the coming year. Your house must be just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLovely touches around your home, Mary. I really like 'Bob and Mary', the friendly mice. :) I baked 2 batches of cookies this morning - I'm done! Enjoy the week's festivities! xx Pam
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your Christmas Mary. I know your house will be so festive. But I have a feeling your weather will be too warm for that fire; but do it anyway. Happy Holidays from our house to yours.
ReplyDeleteMy kitchen is a total mess right now. I'm waiting for something to come out of the oven before sticking something else into it and then I'll begin a clean up. Your open house sounds lovely - and the idea of a fire with the doors open is something I've done. It's all about the ambiance! Bob and Mary Mouse look to be a most delightful couple.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a wonderful Christmas.

I'm about done with my mess in the kitchen - just some sugar cut-out cookies to frost and of course frost the gingerbread cookies with pink icing. I made 7 dozen meatballs today for christmas eve open house - only thing left to do now is vacuum the dining room and set up the buffet table for christmas eve.
ReplyDeleteI love your woolly mice - they should have a good time through the year. Your decorations are so very pretty - you have a lovely home.
These darling mice look exhausted, they must have worked hard preparing for the holiday.
ReplyDeleteA very merry Christmas to you and yours, Mary.

Everything's looking great, Mary, and I bet you're very well organised. It is somewhat chaotic in our household...what time would you like us over on Christmas Eve?! Joking aside, thanks for all your lovely posts and for popping across to my blog as you do. All the best to you and Bob for a wonderful Christmas and New Year.
ReplyDeleteHave a very Merry Christmas and wishing you the very best for the New Year!!
ReplyDeleteMary, It is always good to stop by and visit with you. Sending wishes for a peaceful and joyous Christmas! Hugs, Bonnie
ReplyDeleteFun description of your kitchen and, since I just began my baking today, it sounds so familiar. Bob and Mary Mouse may have gotten into the Harvey's Bristol Cream. =D Theyare adorable and I can see why they will be out and about in 2016. Merry Christmas, Mary!
ReplyDeleteBob and Mary? Perfect. :)
ReplyDeleteKeeping my eyes open for those lil' mice in future pics too btw. So, did you end up having to keep the door open? Suspect you did.
