I took this photo of my remaining lonely sunflower on Wednesday in
the heat of the day. Each time I tried to focus, the lens clouded
over with the brutal humidity. Visible is our grass now browning out.
Today dangerous heat is expected yet again.
The sunflowers must have been exceptionally tasty this year!
Only a few reached maturity, such as this beauty, the remainder
never grew to expected heights or even bloomed. . . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . due to the marauding deer!
My neighbor sent a photo he took at 6:30 am yesterday of
two grown male deer with large antlers chomping on this last flower.
Then they joined a third male under the fig tree where they tucked
into the freshly filled bird feeders.
C'est la vie. . . . . . .and it's just too hot to get mad at them!

I love sunflower, too. This flower is the vivid life enjoying the summer sunshine.

Deleteoh dear Mary, it really does sound dreadfully hot over there, just like the really awful Summer we had over in Australia last year. I dread a repeat of those months of overwhelming heat. Keep cool. So funny to think of the deer eating at the bird feeders - I don't even like it when the wrong birds eat the seed I put out. Your sunflower is stunningly beautiful, a perfect yellow. xx

Thank goodness for air conditioning, yes? I can't imagine what it was like 150 years ago living in your part of the country when people had to wear so many layers of clothing, and no relief from the heat! Stay safe and stay cool!
