Back at the Depot...............

Remember my recent trip to Concord, NC to visit the Depot grand opening at the Gibson Mill?  "Artsy Fartsy" Janna, "manager extraordinaire" steered me there, and my ever wonderful DH drove me there with Vanessa my best road trip friend - well actually everything friend! Janna has two booths of fabulous finds here, some of which I showed you previously at the Depot, and also her booths at The Sleepy Poet in Charlotte, NC.  Janna is a busy lady that's for sure, even making fabulous jewelery in between junking trips to the countryside and working!!  I love how these young women do so much with their time - just wish I could turn my clock back a few years, plus get a new back for the heavy lifting part, lol!

Well I promised more pics of the treasures offered in that huge space......and here they are.

Rachel of The Shepherds Fold Design and busy assistant manager at the Depot, has the prettiest chippy painted furniture and lots of interesting accessories...loved the baseballs in the shoeshine box.

Beth of Olde Tyme Marketplace whom unfortunately I didn't meet, but hope to next visit as she left me a lovely comment on my earlier post about the Depot, had gorgeous things beautifully displayed in her booth.  See the old French blue painted wooden wheels displayed in the silver dish.....how cute is that?  I should have brought those home!

Other things caught my eye...........tons of them but  I couldn't photograph everything displayed in that 'Aladdin's Cave' covering the massive 88,000 square feet.  Here's a few, and another time I'll share the loveliest 'garden booth display' I've ever seen.

Yes, these words are true........and how great it is to repurpose, reuse and recycle history in and around our homes.

Tell me where you are hunting these bright Spring days!  The brocantes of France (you lucky ones!); neighborhood yard/garage sales early Saturday morning; local flea markets; antiques/vintage/thrift shops.......or even at the side of the road - amazing what some people just 'drop off'.

What I love right now.........

................these finds at the Gibson Mill Depot in the lovely town of Concord, NC.  Strolling main street we found the lunchtime sandwiches at Ellie's Cafe delicious, and the historic Victorian style homes beautiful.

I wasn't kidding when I mentioned bringing home a rusty old horseshoe.  I thought I could use it in the gazebo.  When sitting there with a stack of favorite magazines I sometimes need a paper weight when breezes blow through... this will do the job well!  Right now the gazebo, like the entire area, is smothered in pollen, blowing about in choking clouds.  Unable to sit out there, I pray for some rain to settle the dust so I can enjoy my little spot of garden heaven.

French blue or gray............you know I can't resist when I find something already painted these simple French country colors. They're a pair and I've split them up, this one in the corner of the dining room, the other in the bedroom. Pretty, tall iron tables, I really love their beautiful finish.

Vanessa, with her young and creative eye, always spies things I love............she knew I was looking for more linen feedsacks and found two with pale blue stripes for me.  These are domestic, not as rustic and textured as old European ones, they will however be fine for pillow covers, perhaps for the gazebo chairs....and were a good price.

Last but not least, the addiction to china never subsides so had to have this very pretty plate to use for serving cake perhaps. There were actually three and I'm kicking myself for not buying them all! Already delicately crazed, I really love the deep scalloped edge and the wildflowers remind me of an English country meadow. The pattern is however named "Washington", made by Booths, a very old British pottery.

I'll be sharing more from the Gibson Mill Depot.  I loved hearing from the vendors who left comments on my previous post.  Hope to get back down there with a bus load of treasure hunting 'junk gypsies' when I get back from Africa ~ and perhaps meet up with the Charlotte area bloggers, now that would be fun.

Road trip.........The Depot at Gibson Mill

On Saturday I pursuaded DH to take a road trip.  We invited good friend Vanessa of Vanilla Lavender along knowing she would love where we were going! We took the back roads avoiding the busy highway.
The Spring weather was perfect. Trees were leafing out in that gentle, almost lime green, interspersed with redbuds in full blossom. White and pink dogwoods were just opening their delicate blooms.  Along the country roads, we admired old wood-framed farmhouses and small red brick ranch style homes with gardens of overgrown azaleas, gnarled trees with ivy clambering upward, beds of tulips and creeping perwinkle......lovely overgrown 'secret gardens'. They beckoned to us beyond rustic hand built fences covered with twining Carolina Jessamine (a native Jasmine)......just beginning to show their bright yellow flowers.

Our destination was just a couple of hours away in Concord, North Carolina.  This is the Gibson Mill - once Cannon Mill No.6 where they manufactured gingham fabric.  Recently refurbished into offices, events space..........and the amazing 88,000 square foot Depot at Gibson Mill Antiques Mall.

An Oliver brand typewriter, probably the oldest one I've ever seen!

So here I am, typing writing a little about this gigantic emporium of booths holding everything from rusty horseshoes (yes, I had to have one!), to exquisite and very expensive French antiques, and everything collectible in between.

Enjoy the photos, and if you live in, or are ever near Charlotte, NC, you will be very close to this treasure hunting paradise so be sure to visit.

Blog friend Janna of Artsy Fartsy Junk Finds is now working full time at the Depot, as well as having two booths of her unmistakeable neutral color farm finds..........it was so nice to meet and be welcomed so warmly by her. Janna made my neat Junk Gypsy  necklace after I discovered her blog and visited her booth at the Sleepy Poet Antique Mall in Charlotte last Fall - another fabulous place.
