Scarves, wraps = elegant, inexpensive warmth. . . . . . . . . . .

. . . . . . . a new season of dressing has arrived.

My neighbor and friend said she was busy
"getting her scarves out" which made me realize
those cozy necessities for autumn/winter days
and evenings are longing to be pulled from drawers
 or storage boxes NOW!
So I'm packing away my light silk and linen scarves
of summertime, and organizing the pile of pashmina,
woven wool, hand knit, and cashmere.
Makes me happy - nothing lovelier than a beautiful
warm scarf to wrap, wind, toss about the neck,
around the shoulders, even over a jacket or coat.
Here are a few new favorites I would love to have.

Are you a scarf person?
About how many do you have?
Own up now - I must have at least fifty - and always want more!
Thankfully, inexpensive beauties can be found, although every
gal needs at least one in pure cashmere - add to your
wish list now!

Do you knit scarves?  They are my go to cool weather
craft - always have one easy pattern (so I don't have to look
too closely) on my knitting needles so I can do something
worthwhile when watching TV, and keep my old fingers moving.
How about you?

  1. I have lots of scarves, but never manage to look quite as elegant as the models!

    1. I know what you mean but have learned not to try to be as fussy with them, just let them 'go with the flow', especially the larger ones. I really like very large squares in soft fabrics which can be used in different ways, and my pashminas which I usually pick up whilst on travels - they keep memories of special places close.
Thanks for stopping by B, blogging is becoming outdated I fear and friends are moving on to other things - I miss so many of the old group!

  2. Hi Mary :) FIFTY??? I think we are talking slight obsession now ha ha ha! ;)...I have ONE scarf. And not because I don't love them, but because I have had that grey scarf since the 80's...it is so warm and soft and cozy...it's the only one I wear all winter long!! And it's a nice long one too, I can wrap it up all over my head and around my face and neck when the winds get too cold! I have great dreams of knitting more, but I always go back to my favourite! :) So far no holes either!!! :)

    1. Honestly Rain my stash grows continuously because the one thing I always buy on a trip to another country is a scarf! They are light and packable where luggage weight is a concern, and I do find lovely ones for a small cost. Every now and then I downsize the scarf drawer and share with my granddaughter - but yes, I do have many and wear most of them. I admire you living with just that one favorite, I need lessons in becoming a minamalist!!!!!

  4. Your question made me curious, and since I have recently organized and neatly folded my scarves, I got up to count them - just over 30. And there are always more I would like. They keep me warm and add some colour and, I hope, style to my rather casual wardrobe.
The black background scarf with what looks like embroidery on it is stunning.

    1. Lori, love how you went and counted your collection! The right scarf is never wrong - and yes, that patterned one in black is just gorgeous!
Enjoy the cooler days - I am.

  5. You made me go count. I have 25 scarves all together. I had just been thinking I should start wearing them more often. Since I have picked up crochet I have been thinking about making a scarf. Also this winter I plan to start spinning wool again, so who knows there may be more scarves in my future.

    1. Your collection sounds perfect Marilyn and I will try to get mine down to fewer this winter. The older favorites have memories woven into the fabric though - like the beauty from Apt when we stayed at La Madonne (you remember that beautiful place!) and shopped on a brilliant market day, and the one I chose in Aix once the rain let up and we were able to do the market where the flower stalls were unbelievably beautiful and perfumed.

  6. I always wanted to knit but I can crochet ... just can't knit .. I have such a huge collection of scarves from over the years and now here I am in Florida ! I have to move back North so I can wear them again lol ... Mine are knit, silk, velvet .. no wool, it itches but most are just sitting in their drawers, waiting for me to get out of Florida and back where I can wear my scarves :)

    1. See Candice, you're ready for a return to the north with all those beautiful scarves! Oh I forgot to mention my velvet ones - I do have a couple I love and will never share, even with the granddaughter - they are my go to evening ones, so pretty and soft.

  7. I probably have about 30 scarves, and there is one on the needles right now. I had a laugh as I looked at the first photo on your post, as close inspection let me know that it is one that I own........my current favourite.

  8. I saw some Mom jeans there. I have some beautiful scarves, but every time I try to wear them, I can't figure them out and look silly. Guess you have to have the scarf gene.

  9. Yes, I've put away my flamboyant silk Spring scarves away now. :D No, but really, I am totalyl a scarf man. Not a hat man, mind you but I love my tartan scarf...one I gave to my mother one year which she then mailed back in same package I had sent it! The following year or two later, she saw me wear it, commenting how good it looked and I said, "Well, it should - I chose it for you adn you mailed it re-gifted it back the next year!" In typical fashion she quipped right back, without a moment's delay, "Oh, did I? How sensible. And no wonder I have such good tastes!"

Alex used to have over 50 scarves but when we moved to UK for those 4 months, we both decluttered and she forced herself down to 11 but now she's back up to 18. It happens. :)
