Damp and dreamy garden morning -

I was 'walking the bounds' early this morning. . . . . and it was beautiful.
Cooler temperatures, less pollen, and blooming going crazy!
Rain came by way of a very noisy thunderstorm last night, washing
 and watering everything.

This corner in the front garden is quite lush.
The magnolia blooms almost finished but lovely bright green leaves out now.
The acer looking magnificent after my gentle prune, the knockout rose and
hydrangea huge already, the daylilies not blooming yet but their foliage
 looks healthy.

The sun is out now. I'm off to gather my pots around me to prepare
them for summer bulbs and herbs (basil, dill, parsley etc.) and
perhaps a couple of tomato plants.
Bob has gone to the Farmers' Market to pick up fresh eggs.
This evening we are attending a small wedding at an historic inn -
our first social engagement with friends - masked and distanced,
and at least we are vaccinated - in over a year!
It's 'casual' thankfully so won't be hard to dress for!

Kitchen window flowers from the garden for the weekend.

The death of Prince Philip has brought sadness around the world . . . .
but what an amazing long life and marriage to our lovely monarch.
My thoughts are with Queen Elizabeth and the Royal family.

Have a great weekend wherever you are.

  1. Your property is so beautiful! And, of course, you're way ahead of us. The trees here in northern IL are just now starting to bud!

Have a good weekend...enjoy the wedding!

  3. Dearest Mary,
What beautiful 'after rain' photos, so clear and vivid in color.
Prince Philip lived till the blessed age of almost 100; so there is nothing sad about his passing...
A blogger friend just lost her husband suddenly, he was almost four decades younger!
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  5. Things are looking very well in your garden, Mary, and a little cooler temperature is always welcome. We are having a cooler day today, after a forecast of high heat, which makes it even more appreciated. How lovely to be invited to a wedding, after such a long year of 'no going out'. I hope you have a very pleasant time. While it was not unexpected, I did feel sadness when the death of Prince Philip suddenly popped up on my phone after the announcement. It is the loss of a constant figure, always there for the Queen and their family, and a highly talented and intelligent man in his own right. I remember going to see them when I was a wee girl in 1954 and they came on their first of many visits to Brisbane. She was pretty in yellow and he was debonair in a panama hat. What a team! xo

    1. The wedding brought joy to so many last evening - hopefully everyone will stay healthy - I would not have gone if not vaccinated!!!
Our Queen will miss Philip so much - they were a wonderful couple and I think enjoyed great times together when alone away from the public eye. I last saw them in person when a child also, we had the day off from school and went by bus to a nearby market town - Newton Abbot - where they visited. We were each given a small Union Jack flag on a stick to wave.

  6. What beautiful green in your garden.
Sadness at the Queen's and her countries loss.
I hope the wedding was just perfect. These little steps out into the world are to be treasured.

  8. I love your garden, Mary! And that bunch of flowers all from your garden is simply gorgeous.
The Queen has known her husband ever since she was a girl of 13. She must miss him terribly.

    1. I love a few fresh flowers in the kitchen.
Yes, she first met him in Devon, my home county - he apparently jumped over tennis court nets and she was smitten though so young!

  10. Dear Mary,
Everything looks so pretty and green in your garden. Your hard work is paying off and a little rain here and there does wonders.

  11. Dear Mary - I do hope that both you and Bob had a lovely time at the small wedding held in the historic inn. It is such a lovely feeling to think that very slowly things are beginning to improve. This week we are meeting my youngest son and his wife for a picnic, half way between our two houses, and we are also off to visit a beautiful NT garden in Hereford. Things are slowly looking up, and at last I am beginning to use my diary again.
Your garden is looking so lovely really lush and verdant. The green on your trees is definitely ahead of ours.
