Following the most beautiful warm and sunny day on Easter Sunday,
it rained heavily most of yesterday and was so chilly. We had errands to
run - garage for a car repair, airport run to pick up a friend, tailor shop to
collect a few items requiring alterations, and a LIDL stop for fresh rustic
baguette to accompany the roasted butternut squash soup I made
early morning - warming soup for a cold, wet day. Perfect.
The birds are busy.
More cardinals are visiting the front garden, relaxing
in the the now leafed out trees, with many robins, sparrows, finches
and mourning doves. The chickadees have nested in the tiny wooden
box hanging in the fig tree. . . .mamma is sitting on eggs.
In the back garden the bluebirds are busy, along with doves,
nuthatches, woodpeckers, towhees, blue jays and thrashers.
One large lonely crow struts around the lawn or sits cawing in
an oak tree, seemingly calling for a mate for the past few days.
Wherever we look there are busy squirrels, and just one rabbit has
appeared so far! A few butterflies have been seen on sunny days,
a lovely sight! A pair of carpenter bees are checking the wooden
rails of the front porch, always a favorite place to burrow and nest.

In a day or so I'll be packing the Easter decor away - thankful there's not
too much, like at Christmas! All fit into just two large boxes, with lots of
tissue paper wrapped around those precious rabbit ears!

Tulips are just about over in the gardens around here.
Yesterday's heavy rain for hours cleared much of the pollen
which is good, but did damage some delicate flowers.

Rabbits I have seen many times, but never a squirrel in the flesh. I know what they look like from TV, but it is like a meerkat or koala. To be certain they are real, I would like to be in your garden when they arrive.
ReplyDeleteHello, Mary. Bunnies have been seen in the gardens around here, and squirrels running along the fence top. I can picture the flurry of activity in your garden with the birds flying to and from the feeders and nesting in your trees. Such a hopeful time of year.

I love that last photo of your tulips - it is worthy of a frame - what a busy time you are both having helping other people whilst coping with your own chores too. Fingers crossed that this reaches you. I am having a terrible time with blogger not being able to answer comments and having difficult making them on other blogs too. If it doesn't improve I might have to give up as it is driving me nuts!!!

ReplyDeleteWe too had heavy rain and rather cool nights once again. Even cooler this coming Wednesday.
Our tree cutting guy came yesterday but said that our wood garden needs to dry out first before they can come in to do the job...
One day it will really be spring! Birds sure are active and the trees looked so full and green today as I drove once more to Atlanta for our shopping rounds.
Also for picking up my beloved Mont Blanc travel fountain pen. So happy that it is writing again; love my fountain pens and so does Pieter.
Wishing you some cozy days with soup; haha, that's exactly what I made us yesterday evening. It feels so good to eat right now.

We've been having unbroken sunshine for days now, really beautiful, but of course the land would welcome some rain.
Mr. P just looked across at my laptop as I was contemplating your last tulip photo and said, "That's a pretty painting!" And it would be :)
