All about the greens and a busy week -

Lately, I seem to run out of time to write here, and to comment - forgive me.
It's just amazing how suddenly the garden awakes and there is so much to do
to keep ahead of overgrowth and weeds. With no rain we've also had to water
as the afternoon temperatures are really hot.
We spend a lot of time outside, then in the afternoons collapse on the porch
with a cup of tea, then in to make supper.

Not only a lot of pinks and purples blooming, plenty of green also
.
Bob is mowing this early morning before it gets too hot - high 82F later!
Note the urn with small conifer in top left - my favorite Carolina wren pair
have a nest in there. The fig tree is almost completely leafed out as
you can also see in that same photo.

There are hundreds of these sprouting oak trees to pull out this year!

Jasmine on the back fence just opening gorgeous yellow blooms.

'Snowballs'

Trumpet vine in all its glory on the side arbor.

Enjoying some green tea in the Anthropologie super sized cups,
or perhaps they're actually mugs!

Luscious, local, freshly picked strawberries enjoyed this week.
Will pop over to the farm stand for more later today.
A homemade strawberry rhubarb galette comes to mind!

Pollen much less at last!

'Trumpets' and strawberries!

After some thunderstorms last night and an early morning shower,
the sun is out, shining brightly into the east facing upstairs bedroom.
Another 80F day ahead but no garden watering required.

Yesterday I almost fell over when I checked the arbor and
noticed such a mass of blooms on the trumpet vine - the best I can recall
in the years of growing, being cut down, and climbing up again! Maybe it was
due to the very mild winter weather.

Bob at work in the garden, plenty to keep him busy.
Note we also have fairy lights on the arbor - it's very bright
and cheery in the evenings.
Yesterday we also heard there were fabulous local strawberries for sale at a
roadside stand nearby. Bob gathered his mask and car keys and took a
quick ride - his first time out in a week - to get some.
There can be no 'PICK YOUR OWN' customers in the berry patch this spring due
to the virus isolation rules, so this farmer is bringing them to us. He expects to
have berries for at least two months so I know we'll be back often.
Yes,  I'm washing them well!
These have to be the best tasting strawberries ever, and I like that the
 basket held assorted sizes.

Don't forget, Bob will be pulling the winner's name from his hat on Monday!
If you didn't leave a comment on my post regarding the book giveaway, there's
still a chance to win if you go to this post, GIVEAWAY
Hope you join in.

Scribble Picnic - Strawberry. . . . . . . .

Strawberry picking time is already here in North Carolina.
Just down the road, into the gorgeous green countryside, there
are plenty of strawberry patches - U-Pick Your Own, or
roadside stands where, thankfully, the farmer and his workers
have done the hard work for we less agile/hard to bend our
backs group. I used to enjoy strawberry picking with the
kids in my younger days!
Yesterday we pulled over to the stand set up annually just a few minutes
down the road from home, and bought our second punnet of rosy, sweet,
"picked this morning" strawberries. . . . . . . and as they hope to be picking
locally into early June, we'll be back for more.

My strawberries edited via PicMonkey to a sketch, colored with watercolor pencils.

This week Michael's SCRIBBLE PICNIC theme is Strawberry - fresh,
sweet, healthy berries.  Stop by for some springtime fruit shared by
our creative group.

Enjoy!
