Come sip sweet nectar.............

The flowering sedum plant is flopping all over the walkway in front of the porch............but I daren't prune it back because this week it seems to be home and restaurant to butterflies and bees.

This is the Buckeye, easily recognizable by the prominent eye spots on the wings which probably protect them from predators.  Enjoying an afternoon snack on the blooming sedum.....................

................it certainly displayed perfect Autumn colors.  When the wings close it's quite a plain brown creature, but what beauty when it opens them.

The bees are huge and plentiful, always a good sign in the garden as they are needed for pollination.

When I took these shots there were at least 20 of these large bees, and some smaller ones, all friendly as they buzzed back and forth on the open flowers

The joys of Autumn gardens.

  1. I find that our bees, when busy with the flowers, are quite friendly too. I get pretty up close and personal when I photograph them and they never seem to get aggressive. Your shots are so lovely today!

  3. The bees are slowing down these days, and sometimes forget to climb backwards from deep in the late-blooming foxglove. I always find it sad that the garden explodes in colour just before the first frost.

  4. What beautiful photos Mary! It is starting to look like fall around here...leaves are falling in our backyard and some of the maple trees are turning red.
