Believe!

On Monday we dragged the big green boxes out of the attic and
Christmas decorating began!!!
Early Tuesday morning the new amaryllis was starting to open its buds.

Above is my vintage metal tree prior to adding ornaments, always displayed
in this corner of the dining room for Christmas. This year I'm wrapping the
base with the beautiful hanks of soft, snowy yarn purchased when visiting
the Falkland Islands on my expedition journey to Antarctica in
 January 2013.

This morning the first two buds opened and there are three more,
not bad for one strong stem.
Amazing bulbs! If I had more bright spots around the house
 I would grow dozens!

As you can see the tree is now ready for the Christmas season.
I'll be sharing more holiday decor during the coming week

  2. Your amaryllis is beautiful, Mary. It's amazing how strong they are. I had one this color long ago and then I purchased one that grew to have vivid red flowers and I really loved that one. I think I'm a little late in the game to have one bloom over Christmas, but there's always my birthday February 3!

Looking at the blogs and Instagrams, I'm not feeling very much that I'm behind or overwhelmed with what so many ladies have accomplished thus far...shopping, wrapping, baking, decorating, etc. I not only know my limitations, but my slow and focused ways simply aren't going to change for this old dog! I have my tree in a pail of water in the garage and tomorrow Al will carry upstairs what I choose to use to make the house festive.๐ŸŽ„ I have a ridiculous amount of holiday decor and so much is close to my heart-I just can't use it all at once, after all, what we put up, we have to take down!

I love your metal tree, it's very much a reflection of the way you decorate your home. I'm redoing my family room very slowly as I'm collecting rather than buying. I only have my white slipcovered furniture after giving away a lot of other pieces, and then I think I will head off in a different direction away from my normal mish mash and go a bit classic but cozy. I mentioned a book in a post just previous to the one I wrote Wednesday called A Place To Call Home by Gil Schafer. If you Google it or look it up on Amazon, I think you will get the idea of what I'm leaning toward. It's a nice diversion that I can do without hurry.

I think it would be fun to share dear or special ornaments. Of course I love all the little cuties my kids made when they were young, I have some from places we have visited. One year I overdid some spending on woodland creatures, there's just some impulsive buys. Now I have to be selective. My favorites are the old, tarnished, and never forgotten ornaments that hung on my parent's tree year after year. My sisters and I each picked a few we loved after my father passed in 2014. I think I'll photograph them in a pretty bowl or dish to display this year.

Covid is rampant in Illinois. I thought I would totally give up going to the grocery store and inside Walgreens, but I just can't bear being shut inside day after day. Three of my kid's spouses contracted the virus but they did not! Isn't that odd? Unless they had it and never really had symptoms. A and I have been fighting a head and chest cold for weeks-I think Little Madelyn spread her germs when she was here before Halloween to help me make treat bags. I've been living with it for quite some time and just taking a little Tylenol and staying hydrated. Today my head was pounding and I had body aches so I bit the bullet and had a Covid test nearby at a drive-thru in a church parking lot. It was a "rapid test", so I had my good news 15 minutes later!

I received your and Bob's Christmas card today, the first! Thanks always for the sentiments you write, warm wishes are always appreciated. I plan to do a more thoughtful job on my cards this year. A great escape and it makes the recipient happy to get something in the mail. How I miss letters!

I will get an email off to you soon, and a card, regarding where I left off a few weeks ago. It's not good news so maybe that's why I postpone even typing it. But I will...you and Bob have been a great source of support even though our visits are very few and far between.

Sending love and hugs to you both, keep those pretty photos coming to bring us good cheer, and I'm going to see if I can get any goodies online at World Market, I never knew and how I'd like some really good chocolate.

    With love,

    Jane๐Ÿ˜˜

  3. So magical when anything blooms, especially an indoor plant. I don't seem to have the right environment for doing that here. Merry days to you.

  10. Your corner looks delightful, Mary! My mother has discovered Amaryllis growing in the garden in her new home and is not impressed with them. I must say, seeing yours indoors in little pots, they are better suited to indoor styling.
