December 1-7 is National Handwashing
Awareness Week
One of the best ways to stay healthy now is to suds up!
Research shows that 97 percent of people don't do it right.
The biggest mistake is not washing long enough. Use hot water.
Scrub for at least 20 seconds as we have been reminded during
COVID~19, including the backs of your hands, between
your fingers and under your nails.
A nail brush is always a good little tool to keep close. . . . .
. . . . . . especially after kitchen chores such as kneading dough.
Stay safe - wear a mask, distance, and wash your hands often.
It seems to have been hand-washing year over here with everyone from the Prime Minister to my 4-year-old neighbour reminding me! Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteJohn, I remind Bob all the time, especially if we've been away from the house - jump out of the car, unlock the door, and head for the bathroom wash basin or kitchen sink!!!
DeleteEnjoying your English countryside photos as always - stay well.
Nice hand cream makes for a good little present, too - we all know the feeling of rough skin due to washing our hands even more frequently than we used to do.
ReplyDeleteI have read that it does not matter whether the water is hot or cold (but I hate washing my hands in cold water!), the secret lies in the soap and, as you say, washing long enough. For that, though, the water does not have to be running - it is enough to wet your hands to begin with, and at the end (after the 20 seconds) when you rinse.
Meike, I do think hot water is best to spread the suds around, and feels so much better.
DeleteYes, nice hand creams are wonderful, my favorite in the winter months is the French brand L'Occitane - and they make an awesome foot cream too! Both come in great packaging and I often gift them.
Handwashing is an art and no one is doing it properly. 😶 Loved the images!
ReplyDeleteI just read that plenty of hand washing with regular soaps is all we need to do, not antibacterial soap - COVID is a virus, not a bacteria! Hand sanitizer does not protect us, just makes our hands break out in rashes - which happened to me and I couldn't wear my rings!
DeleteDear Mary,
ReplyDeleteIt never hurts to be reminded again and again. Now that is what a pre-baked loaf of bread should look like.
Did you spot your little soap dish Gina?
DeleteI need to starting baking again - was really going to town with loaves back in spring, but started eating too much so cut back on baking bread! Now the colder weather means more oven time perhaps!
It is interesting that many people don't wash their hands properly or at all. I always wonder
Deleteafter using a rest room and watching this. When I kneat dough or form meanced meat I wear
gloves.
I've always been in the habit of washing my hands often but don't really worry whether it's 20 seconds. I think sometimes they just give us a time to aim for so we feel like we are doing something (like 2 minutes for teeth brushing). Thanks for stopping by today. Take care.
ReplyDeleteWe recovered well, hubby in five weeks and me in three. My daughter and her husband caught it first, which where we got it from. She's in Madrid now. They didn't go into a two week quarantine as other people that enter the country do; exactly because they had to take papers from their Drs. specifying that they are perfectly over with COVID. In fact our five year old is going to Kindergarten with other children.
ReplyDeleteWe sure continue with the thoroughly hand washing and mask wearing when we are out. God was good with us by making us well and by been taking good care from the Dr. that came everyday to our house for the treatment.
Thank you for this post my friend.
Fabby
My favourite soap too, Mary, thank you!
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful images, Mary.
ReplyDeleteYes, handwashing is so important, now more than ever in times of Covid. I tend to wash my hands in cold water which I've read is just as good as long as I soap up well.
Happy December to you!
Serena xx
I wash my hands a lot longer than I used to, and am very thankful for the L'Occitane hand creams that I have stashed in my purse, in the bathrooms, and in my desk at school. I don't like using hand sanitizer and resort to it only when I cannot wash.
ReplyDeleteA good reminder to us all!
You are so right Mary ..... being in the medical trade, I do know how to wash my hands properly as in ' scrubbing up ' ! But, it's very easy to rush it and not do it properly. XXXX
ReplyDeleteI sing the happy birthday song twice while washing my hands. Easier than counting! The CDC says you can wash your hands with either cold or hot water, doesn't matter. It's the soap and the scrubbing that kill the germs. I always use warm water though, just because it feels better on my hands.
ReplyDeleteI like the Mrs Meyers Lemon Verbena soap. For shower/bath time, we use liquid Dr Bronner's in the lavender scent. We both have very sensitive skin and this is one of the only soaps we can tolerate.
