Trying to keep up with everything.
Why does December gallop nonstop across the calendar?
This year may be different but around here it's not any slower.
Everything still seems to be a race. Shopping, cleaning, decorating,
writing cards, baking, raking and blowing millions of leaves down
to the road before the city vacuum truck arrives (due this week).
End of year medical checks, the mammogram, the labs. . . . on
and on it goes.
Not complaining though, just needed to say it and will now move
along, get it all done, thankful to be healthy, active and able!
Yesterday, while running errands, we were horrified at the number of
young people out and about without masks.
Please tell your youngsters - especially teens - how important
it is to wear a mask to protect their siblings, parents,
grandparents, friends, as well as themselves. . . . . . . and
strangers like us whom they pass in the street or store.
Here's to the busy week ahead!
Stay safe - Be well
I was feeling like I was the only one who was actually busy this month! I wondered how that could be possible during a pandemic, but things still have to be done. I've been working on cards, already did some holiday cookie prep (put the dough balls in the freezer), have been looking for gifts online, have gone to a couple of doctor appointments, have been to my mom's house a few times (a 50 min drive each way) to help her with some things, regular errands, plus taking my cat to the vet twice/week for IV infusions. You are the second person in these past few days to mention seeing teenagers in public not wearing masks. We see it here, too. They congregate together, none of them wearing masks. I was saying to my other online friend that I think back to when I was that age, and I remember feeling invincible too - no matter what my parents said to me. It's evident the frontal lobe of the brain that controls reasoning doesn't fully develop until age 25+! Not to say that what these young people are doing isn't wrong, but just trying to comprehend their behavior. Have a good Sunday!
ReplyDeleteIs there not a mask mandate there if you are around a lot of people? I don't wear mine if I'm walking and rarely pass anyone. But certainly wear one in crowded places, especially inside buildings. Though I've noticed that people might wear one going in, but they pull it down under their chin while walking around which I find a bit arrogant and disrespectful since it is a requirement here to wear one in public spaces. I don't run around for anything anymore. My day was spent cleaning up after the storms we had last night. More of that to do but will spread it out over the coming week. Take care.
ReplyDeleteDecember does seem to race by. I always think I have lots of time in November and am rather slow at getting myself organized. Once December 1 arrives, I'm left breathless at the speed of how quickly the days pass. I have completed most of my shopping - a fair bit online this year, and I'm making a few simple things. We decorated yesterday and the house is full of light and sparkle. We all need that!
ReplyDeleteHave a good week ahead, Mary, and I hope you tick a lot of those "thing to do" off your list.
Dearest Mary,
ReplyDeleteThe year sure is dwindling down rather fast!
There is however absolutely no scientific proof of those masks doing anything. Contrary, they can cause a lot of problems.
How would you explain that in several other countries where NO masks are being worn, have no problems? Visit for instance a blogger friend in Australia and check out her monthly wrap ups where you see just normal people enjoying life as it ought to be.https://sami-colourfulworld.blogspot.com/2020/12/november-wrap-up.html
Hugs,
Mariette
Yes December seems to race away even in the midst of a pandemic. Decorating and baking not so difficult but shopping - that is a challenge. Take care and find some time to enjoy the blessed season. Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love your soothing palette for your dining room! The candles are very pretty. x
ReplyDeleteSame here, Mary - it does not seem to be any slower, this December, in spite of no Christmas Markets and no socialising like we usually do this time of year. But like you, I am not complaining - just glad to be able to do it all, AND enjoy it at the same time!
ReplyDeleteWearing masks is mandatory here in most areas of public life now, and the fines for not sticking to the rules are hefty. That makes sure that we come across people without masks very rarely now.
This December is a strange one for us, with moving to a new home and not being all settled. We do have a tree up and the cards have been sent. I always schedule my yearly exams in February so I don't have to deal with them during the holiday season.
ReplyDeleteDecember always seems to pass too quickly and it's my favourite month. I made my first batch of cookies today as we are in mandatory quarantine due to someone in my son's class testing positive for Covid 19. I actually had the day off and was hoping to do some shopping. But we're stuck inside until this Friday. Hoping 2021 will bring some normality back.
ReplyDeleteEveryone I see without a mask gets the evil eye from me....I still can't believe how people are taking this so lightly. Your photo is beautiful Mary, your decorating skills are great! :)
ReplyDeleteYes to masks!!! I have been avoiding going out so much because of those not wearing them and getting too close. I hate being so paranoid, but at this point or ever do I want that virus. Holding my breathe until we can get vaccinated. And now I must go to the post office. It is like a big adventure to go out.
ReplyDeleteDear Mary,
ReplyDeleteLove your still life, so pretty.
I thought I was the only one that felt like the longest year of our lives had just sped up to warp speed. I feel like am running from morning til night and I don't mind but I want the "most wonderful time of the year" to slow down a little so that we can enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteI agree about the masks, PLEASE everyone wear your mask, I would like to get back to some sense of normalcy befrore the end of 2021!
