Downtown Cityscapes Part II -

This week we were back in downtown Raleigh for another overnight.
No dodging the rain as we did two weeks back, still very hot but we
managed to walk about quite a bit without trouble. Good times and
opportunities to take more photos of our ever-growing cityscape.

More 'City of Oaks' decor.  There are four of these interesting towers
on each corner of a plaza and they actually play music!

Back home the figs are almost over and the bees are feasting furiously.
Instead of figs I baked a plum galette - always a favorite and seeing them
in the stores makes me think that Autumn is getting closer. . . . . . . thankfully!

I've already stored the pink early summer flower art and
dug out from storage this more autumnal feeling oil painting.
Tea cups and saucers I purchased in Thailand.

We had torrential rain here again overnight and early this morning,
in fact that was what woke me up before 7 AM. Cloudy all day
and we only reached 79F - the coolest day we've had all
Summer.
Tomorrow will be warmer again, with full sun all day. We've been invited
over for drinks on a neighbor's beautiful new screened-in porch (no
mosquitoes!) with overhead fans and comfortable furniture. . . . hope he
chills the rosé well then it will be a perfect evening!

Enjoy your weekend and take care, especially those of you in those
hot spots in the UK, Germany, France - 103F/39C today in my brother's
village in the south of France!!!

  1. I love that you have been enjoying your own city. What a pretty piece of art with the Thai teacups. I love them too. And your plum galatte entices me to make something similar. Now if I only had some plums. Ymmmm!

  2. We "only" expect about 32C here today in my part of southern Germany. And as for well chilled rosé, we had that yesterday for my Mum's birthday - very nice :-)
It is good to see that there are some trees left in the city of Raleigh and it is not all steel and concrete. In fact, the buildings look rather nice, and I love the oak-themed decor.
A plum galette is certainly something I wouldn't say no to!

  4. Dearest Mary,
That sounds like a good stay in the city with the weather cooperating.
We were not so lucky when we went with our loyal Infiniti QX50 for oil change and tire rotation.
I'd booked us the Hyatt Regency Suite for the night and hoped for being able to swim that afternoon... Nope; it rained!
My total of 11 days of perfect weather while driving my solo–8,000 km was over.
But we both are so grateful and enjoy now each day as a post and relive all the wonders.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  5. What an interesting cityscape you enjoy, Mary, and I love your seasonal redecorating around the casa. I notice Raleigh is getting into the spirit too, with the acorn fairy lights - very cute. I hope you enjoyed your mozzie-free drinks evening, it sounds delightful!

  7. What beautiful photos. We were on holiday today and decided to go out but it was really hot. But there was shade in Valletta some survived. I love your autumnal painting. It has such rich colours.
