Mug shots . . . . . . . .

Do you start your day with a mug of coffee?
I don't think I can get going without mine - just strong black coffee from
the beans I usually grind every few days. I have the coffeemaker ready to go the
night before and push the start button as soon as I hit the kitchen. I don't add a
thing, guess it's my daily wake up call and I have no inclination to change it.

However, when it comes to coffee mugs, sometimes I do make a change.

This lovely mug was a birthday gift last October from my
granddaughter Jasmin. Here I displayed it in the fabulous vintage display
dome she also gave me on that same occasion.
This is the perfect mug for me - large, white, and has a memorable
word ~ CALM ~ inscribed on it. It's a comfy mug to hoist even when full of
strong java, the handle just right, and the free form design is a little edgy which
I really like.

Since acquiring CALM for my morning coffee I've grown a small collection!
Now and then I stop by a HomeGoods store just to "look around". Don't we all plan
to do that, but then end up making a purchase as they have such neat stuff.

So I've now added RELAX, CREATE and DREAM to my mug collection.
I'll continue searching for at least one more word - I like odd numbers.

Do you have a favorite mug?
Do you use it daily - and what do you take in your coffee?

  1. I love mugs! Usually when I'm on vacation, the first souvenir I buy it's a mug....so much for my husband annoyance....lol...

  2. Mary, these simple but oh so stylish mugs are the bees knees! As you know I'm a collector of Emma Bridgewater pottery and my favourite mug from her collection is decorated with vibrant red tulips. I saw recently that she has two new different tulip designs available so may well be adding those to my stash soon.
P.S. I'm so enjoying the beautiful magazines, my dear!

  3. Love the mug - perfect for a morning drink. I have a favorite mug with violets on it - but I drink tea, just not a fan of coffee. When Don and I had our first date he asked to walk me home from work and we stopped at a coffee shop. Not wanting to appear unsophisticated (I was 17 afterall) I ordered a cup of coffee and had to gag it down, lacing it well with cream. It was the first and last cup of coffee I ever drank - after we were dating steadily I didn't care if I appeared sophisticated or not. We still laugh about that cup of coffee.

I am amazed at the number of people that start their day with coffee - my mother drank 20 or 30 cups a day - now there is a coffee fanatic. We don't even own a coffee pot.

Happy morning coffee to you my friend - enjoy the first day of spring.

  4. Dear Mary, Like you I must have a cup of coffee first thing. I have a favorite cup and it even goes with me when we travel. Mr G prepares the coffee the night before and when he lets Lucy out at 4:30 in the morning he pushes the coffee button. Then he warms my milk and by the time Lucy is back we are all upstairs having a cup.
Oh, by the way, I love your plates behind your coffee mugs.

  5. I do have a favorite mug! It is the "calm" mug you gave to me! I cherish it.... I drink a cup of coffee every morning, adding just a splash of half and half. Mr. Comforts gets up before me and makes the coffee. Then he wakes me up when it is ready. He is a treasure!

  6. Love those mugs, Mary. I absolutely understand why you've begun to collect them. I haven't been to Home Goods for a long time....maybe I should visit one!

  7. I love your mugs! Such simple beauty with a deeply impressed statement! My new favorite mug is one I found at a thrift store recently. It's white with vining green leaves and orange nasturtiums rambling all over it. It has that 'secret garden' feel. I just love it and am quite sure my coffee tastes better in it! Happy First Day of Spring!

  8. Hi Mary - Thought I'd join you and show off my favorite mug, too. I love your mug and I, too, am a big fan of those plates. I have a link to your blog today as I must share my favorite blog, too. :) Happy Spring. Deb

  9. I love these mugs which look like vintage stoneware to me. I don't drink coffee much at all but I start the day with a mug of Earl Grey tea. My favourite mug is from David's Tea and has an infuser for the loose tea and a lid. It's white with the outline of a leafless tree on it but I'd like to get their new spring mug (which is white and aqua) if I get to visit their store soon. Happy spring to you Mary. Hugs. Pam

  10. No cup of coffee for me. I just get up and go........I dress, put out the bird seed, walk a quarter of a mile to the paper box and then prepare breakfast. (Once when I was working someone asked how I could get going in the mornings without coffee.......I had never given it any thought. Just don't need it. I have started drinking coffee though if I am going to drive any distance so I am sure to stay awake.) I like your mug collection and I hope you find your fifth one!

  11. Your Jasmin is a thoughtful gal. Love the mug and the resulting collection. How fun to pick one based on the mood that strikes on a particular day.
I look forward to my coffee in the morning. I'm the only one who drinks it at my house. I like to be the first one up with my cup of coffee and usually some quiet blogging time. The mug is a very important part of the experience. I have a blue Wedgewood one that is my current favorite. Not too big or small or heavy and feels good in my hand. In the coffee I put a very small amount of fat free half & half.
Happy Spring to you, Mary and have a wonderful weekend.

  12. Coffee in the morning makes me happy. I want it strong and black. Sometimes I add cinnamon just before brewing. Love the mugs! Enjoy the weekend!

  13. Oooooh, I love those mugs! So pretty. First thing I do upon rising from bed is head to the kitchen to make coffee. Black for me since I gave up dairy a couple of years ago. I thought I would never drink black coffee but now I can't imagine it any other way. I have one cup of coffee at home and then one when I get to the office. And at 10 a.m., I have a small cup of Turkish coffee. :) Have a good day! Tammy

I do love your mugs so very much!
