Losing my grip!

.........Russian Proverb

Sorry, it was just a tiny lie in my short last post.
 Everything is not really good.

The reason I haven't posted all week is that my hands aren't working
well and it's quite painful to do much on the laptop.
I've been struggling a month or more with really painful arms and
legs, and then the hands/fingers started hurting and became numb
and tingling. I dropped several things and Bob has been behind me
sweeping up shards of glass, lifting heavy bowls, sauce pans etc.

Even prior to going to the doctor for blood work on Wednesday I
just knew I was most likely having a Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR)
flare having experienced this condition twice before!
So, unfortunately I'm back on the only drug which will bring relief
and help me get out of bed in the morning, Prednisone, which
usually starts working within a week.
I've also been put on a Low Histamine diet to help with inflammation.
If anyone out there has ever had to follow this eating plan and has
any tips, please share. Many of the foods I enjoy/love are banned
so it's going to be a bit of a roller coaster ride when it comes to
mealtimes around here for the next month or so!!!

I'll be back here soon. Meanwhile I'm enjoying your posts which I
read faithfully, but may not be leaving comments for a little while.
Have a wonderful weekend.

  1. Dearest Mary,
Oh dear; know too well what you're talking about.
In January of 2010 I became totally paralyzed, could not even nod my head or move it. Very scary and they put me on Prednisone for years. Due to that my kidneys now function only for 30%... so it is rough and you pay for it dearly. My diet restricts high amounts of potassium and that in itself is tough for finding food. No sugar and no salt; go try to find ANYTHING. One thing I know for certain, if not home prepared I would be in the grave in a hurry as all ready made foods are loaded with the wrong things.
Not easy to sort it out; took me years and both of us are avid readers but also avid label readers (forced to!)...
Wishing you good luck and hope you soon can shed this nasty thing of PMR.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  2. I am sorry to hear of your problems Mary and do hope the drugs soon have an effect. I will certainly keep in touch - I have a friend with severe Rheumatoid Arthritis and she has had it for many years and bears it stoically. Thinking of you.

  3. Sending healing energy your way, Mary ..... I have been feeling poorly as of late with several of your symptoms. Now I am researching a low histamine way of life.

  5. Dear Mary,
I am so sorry to read that you are having a flare-up of your PMR. Not fun at all. I had to look up what a low histamine diet entails, and oh my, it's quite restrictive, especially for you. I did read that because it's difficult to follow you shouldn't be too hard on yourself. I hope that between the drug and the diet you will soon be feeling much, much better. In the meantime, take good care of yourself and enjoy reading without commenting!
    hugs,
    Lorrie

  6. Oh dear, that is such a shame, Mary. I so sympathise with you. As you know, I have had Polymyalgia for 3 years and am hopefully just about finished with the steroids. I'm sorry that I dont know about the special diet.

  9. Dear Mary, I am very sorry to hear of the pain you are experiencing. I know how difficult it must be when you are used to doing so much. Take care, nurture yourself in all ways. Praying you will start to see improvement very soon.

  10. My dear friend - I am really sorry to learn what you have been going through, and do hope that the (PMR) flare quickly clears up and leaves you alone. I looked up a low histamine diet and was rather surprised to discover that some fruits and vegetables are high histamine whilst others are low - this was a complete surprise to learn as I know that they are a very big part of your diet. I do hope that very quickly things return back to normal for youXX

  11. Oh what a misery. The only good thing is that with a good doctor it is quickly recognized and dealt with. Praying for you to have quick relief.

  13. Oh dear, I am so sorry to hear this. Make sure you're getting enough Omega-3 fatty acids (might have to take a supplement) and calcium and vitamin D. Stay away from inflammatory foods such as gluten, dairy and sugar. I hope that you are feeling better soon! Sending much love and a big hug.

  14. I hope your flare up goes away soon. I've taken Prednisone many times for asthma-it interferes with my sleep and increases my hunger. But it really does help so many things so it can't be all that bad. Relax and read. I've pulled back from social media and TV as I just can't seem to make a dent in the many books I have piled up. I've thought of doing an audio book but I feel oddly uncomfortable about doing it.

Sending a big hug, be easy on yourself and hopefully you will be ready for summer pleasures soon!❤️

  15. Oh, Mary, poor dear you! What terrible news. I have no wisdom about the diet you need but feel sure the resources out there will give you some good ideas. An elderly friend of ours has been on prednisone for a long time and says she has boundless energy for housework at 2am! I hope this isn't the case for you and you are feeling better soon. xx

  16. Sorry to hear you're feeling unwell. I hope you soon recover. A little untruth is acceptable - we have a Prime Minister who does it all the time!

  17. Oh how sad for you - most uncomfortable and debilitating - but hopefully the flare will die down without too many side effects from the drugs; not sure what I'd do if I couldn't write or potter about.

  19. Oh no Mary, I am sorry to hear this. I had not heard of this before and it does not sound pleasant at all. I hope the prednisone will do the trick in short order. My son has a condition that requires him to be on prednisone much too often along with needing to follow a very strict diet. I know, through him, how challenging that can be. I am not familiar with the low histamine diet, but will check it out. You seem to eat so healthy already. It doesn't seem fair :(. You will be in my thoughts, dear Mary.

  20. Oh Mary, so sorry you are having a flare up. That is no fun at all. On the bright side, that is a gorgeous picture on this post. Hope the meds help.
