Camping ~ African Style

Which of these three things will not be going to Africa with me?

The insect repellent clothing is a definite.....an extra safety factor for me who is loved by mosquitoes everywhere!

A few good books for afternoon lounging between game drives at the safari camps......this series set in Botswana, by Alexander McCall Smith, is so wonderful.  I've actually read this first one and am now on the second, so will have to buy two more to take with me!

BUT those huge sea chests filled with elegant clothes and dainty high-heeled shoes......no way.  My little duffle bag is stuffed to the gills with khaki colored bush clothes, and that's all I'm allowed to take. It has to be squished into those tiny planes when flying over the bush from camp to camp.
My trip to Africa is getting closer and I'm getting really excited.  Remember, I won't be blogging while away.....weight allowance and a soft bag will not handle a laptop, and besides there is no Internet available in most places where I'll be staying.  I have stocked up on photo cards and batteries though and hope I'll have some fabulous images to share with you when I return.

  2. Hello Mary, I guessed right away that you would not be taking much clothing etc to Africa. Traveling today has limited baggage drastically. I think it is a good thing. Much less to think about as far as what to wear. HA! I always bring too many clothes and never wear them all.

I love the beautiful dishes SuzAnna gave you. So perfect for your decor. I do hope she will not overdo. I am sure it will hard to keep her down. I hated being tied down for my knee replacements. I am in full swing now.

I heard from Vanessa and I was so happy. I want to stay in touch with her. She is the sweetest person.

Take care and don't get worn out from spring cleaning. You want to be well rested when you go to Africa. Hugs to you Mary.

  3. I am looking forward to all the stores from your trip. Wish you could blog about it while you are there. Maybe you should bring a journal and you could document everything to be blogged about at a later date. I wish I could fit into your pocket and go with.....!

  4. Not wanting to put you off Mary but make sure you check there are no snakes in the dunny before you go....LOL a friend of mine went on a safari and that was what she was most frightened of, getting bitten on the bum by a snake in the toilet!! I could not stop laughing when she told me that.....seriously I hope you have a wonderful trip and come back with some great pictures of your ttravels.

  8. What a trip you will be having! You are very sensible not to take too much. Dont forget to include some sachets of travel-wash for your lighter clothes.
    Bon voyage!

  9. Dear Mary,
I am excited just imagining how wonderful this journey is going to be for you and your travel buddies. I thought of you yesterday as I put yet another coat of paint on my 'great table' top.

  16. It will be a wonderful trip Mary! You will have so many photos to share. I guess the countdown has begun for you which is super exciting. I would have a hard time trying to decide what to pack! I am going to have to check out that book from the library. Although I always loved reading Mrs. Pollifax series, and the books on tape.
    Bye for now!
