Lavender from the garden..................

Lavendula: Lavender

This week I was able to cut the bunch of lavender shown above from my garden. I left about the same amount growing because the bees were also enjoying it so much, and we do need our bees for pollination. I love, love lavender for its wonderful fragrance, its color, and for all the many uses for perfuming our surroundings. Fragrance for the body in soaps and lotions, linen water to spray as we iron, or on the pillow to help sleep on those nights when we toss and turn, In cooking, especially baking, it can add a flavor like no other......and then there's always lavender honey!

Here are some of the lavender photos I've taken over the past few years - funnily I can recall each particular place when and where I spied the lavender............always beautiful, always fragrant.

Some of these pics of lavender products were taken close to home at the Sunshine Lavender Farm here in North Carolina. My lavender plants were purchased from there three years ago and are doing well.
Go here to visit Annie's beautiful place and learn more about planting and growing your own lavender.

My very own French lavender - love it!

  1. I love all your photos, Mary. Lavender is very special. Love the sachet hearts, the soap and the embroidered bags are beautiful. Wish I had one of those.
Congratulations on growing some of your own.
    Have a lovely weekend.

  2. I love lavender too. I sprinkle lavender water on my sheets just like my grandmother did but I don't iron my sheets like she did!

  3. I haven't had any luck growing lavender but I don't have the green thumb you do, Mary! You once sent me a lavender sachet...I still have your lovely note!

  4. LIke Jane, I have not had much luck with lavender either. Too much shade here I think. Yours is fabulous and I can only imagine how heavenly it's fragrance is.

  5. Your lavender photos are beautiful, Mary. In the past, I've not appreciated lavender's scent although I love the plants in my garden and the color of it. However, the scent is beginning to grow on me. I want to harvest some of my own lavender this week - I've been waiting for a really dry day to do it.

I really love the large container with the teacup scoop.

  6. Mary, lavender is a favorite thing here. Our local grocery had bunches of fresh lavender for sale yesterday. I didn't bring one home, but think I'll go back today and see if any is still left. Love the fragrance. I have some in my herb garden but it is a different variety, not the long stalks of blooms.
    Happy summer, my friend.........Sarah

  7. I love putting lavender essential oil and lavender buds in my soaps! I wish my lavender plants were as prolific as yours, however. I struggle with them, helping them along, but it must mean that our climate is not their favorite place to live. How I'd love to have bunches of lavender to pick. sigh.

  8. Mary love that lavender. Your photos are so artistic and makes the precious lavender more precious. Reminds me of my Mom. I have some in a pot and hoping to put it in the ground soon. Blessings to you.

  16. I adore lavender too. I had some huge plants are our former cottage. Here, the poor things are struggling. I have only one left of the original three. Two got killed by the retaining wall workers last year after they replanted them. I suspect that they replanted them too deep. So I bought some replacements a month ago and got them put in. Maybe in a few more years I'll have a decent crop!
