Celebration at sea ..................

.....on the way to Croatia.

Can you believe I was at sea again for my birthday! Two years in a row I've been on a fabulous ship, eating a bang up dinner, sipping excellent wine, downing a Grand Marnier with my demitasse coffee.....and opening lovely presents too! As it was one of the two formal nights on the cruise everyone was dressed to the nines which made it even more special. Following dinner the evening's entertainment was a fabulous musical show titled Across The Pond........perfect!

This year Bob was with me, as well as seven dear friends, so I celebrated big time on the Crystal Serenity. Last year Paula and I were alone in the distant sub-Antarctic Islands of New Zealand.....well not really alone as we were surrounded by the nicest shipmates, and the great crew, on the smaller expedition ship Orion.

Hey, growing older isn't so bad after all...........I feel
extremely blessed.....and I'm enjoying every precious moment.

Our shore excursion into the charming old city of Dubrovnik on the Adriatic Sea, established as a settlement in the 7th century, was marred somewhat by rain and a strong wind......we made the most of it though, dodging into beautiful churches and the Dubrovnik Cathedral full of precious art, frescoes and icons, then enjoying the exhilarating dancers and musicians who put on a show for us in a small theatre. We made it halfway around the slippery ancient city wall, almost getting blown over at the top........then headed for a nice hot drink before returning to the ship.

New tiled roofs on Dubrovnik's buildings damaged
during the Croatian War of Independence
(known as The Homeland War) 1991- 1995, when much
of Croatia was devastated.

Celebrate life come rain or shine!

  5. Belated Happy Birthday, Mary. What a stupendous way to celebrate! I hope this next year is filled with good things.

Dubrovnik looks like a wonderful place to visit. War is so destructive, not only of the landscape and buildings, but of lives, too. Thanks for taking us there.
