Beautiful framed print of an owl seen recently at
The Antique Tobacco Barn, Asheville, NC.
A neighbor's marmalade cat, Bella, who came to visit
my front porch, took a liking to the Autumn decor.....and
enjoyed looking at her reflection in the mirror.
Have you ever wondered what happened to the original
owl and pussycat?
"The owl and the pussy-cat went to sea
in a beautiful pea green boat......."

Generations have grown up reciting this
'nonsense poem'............and I just
discovered some big news. British author,
Julia Donaldson, published a book last month titled
The Further Adventures of The Owl and the Pussy-cat.

What a delightful poetry book duo this will
make for youngsters who love having poems and
stories read out loud to them........then
enjoy reading them later by themselves.

I loved that nonsense rhyme too - and I love how your first photo illustrates your post. Owls seem to be everywhere lately, and one swooped in front of the car this evening as I stopped to open the gate.
ReplyDeleteOh what memories - this is one of my favourite poems.
ReplyDeleteI just love the original illustration!
Wonderful news to hear there are new adventures, I'll have to get it for my girls - thank you dear Mary.
Enjoy your weekend
hugs
Shane
I do remember this poem and can visualize the book we had a children. I think it's on the bookshelf somewhere. Sweet photos. The new story would be lovely. I hope you have a lovely weekend. Hugs, Pamela
ReplyDeleteWonderful for sure. I love it when kids read. On the way to our middle grandson's school open house the other night I asked him what he had done at school that day. He said he had finished all the assigned work in the morning block of time and in the afternoon he had the "pleasure of reading for a whole hour". He is in third grade - what a charmer, and he adores reading.
ReplyDeleteThis was a delightful post. I just love your neighbors cat and I will be looking for that book!
ReplyDeleteHello dear Mary, hope you are keeping well.
ReplyDeleteThe owl and the pussy cat always makes me smile, and I love the images you've posted - the owl print is so beautiful, and marmalades have a special place in my heart.
I too will keep an eye out for the book.
Sending love

Nonsense poems are so much fun. And they teach rhyme and rhythm - but don't tell the little ones that!
ReplyDeleteDarling post, Mary. We are celebrating the coming of Autumn on Pink Saturday this week. I hope you will join us.
ReplyDeleteMary, Edward Lear's nonsense rhyme has long been a favorite for me, runcible spoon and all. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI look forward to finding a copy of this new book. Clever!
I do love this owl and pussycat.
ReplyDeleteLovely!
