Dining out with nature. . . . . . . . . .

Seems like seeds at the source are getting sparse as Summer flowers bake in the hot sun.
Birds and squirrels perform their usual balancing acts to dig out a last quick meal.

Sunflowers may be over in my garden, but the abundance of figs on
my two large trees are feeding many squirrels. They seem to attract many
birds including robins, cardinals, finches and blue jays. I notice the seed feeders
are not being emptied now they can feed on juicy, fresh fruits.

  3. I grew giant sunflowers one summer and saved the heads for birds and squirrels to eat in winter. They didn't eat them. Most of my fruits get eaten by critters except for the citrus. I'veonly found white flies and grasshoppers eating the leaves.

  5. That's a great, fun photo, Mary. Who wouldn't prefer sweet juicy figs to dry old seeds? Smart squirrel!

  6. Love, love your photo so much! We have alot of seed heads now too. Gave one to our D to take home for his birds. The birds and squirrels are loving the abundance.

  8. I have posted pix of the little trees as they grew - you must have missed them Melanie. I'll go out tomorrow and take a photos of the Celeste fig - it is now gigantic and producing pounds of figs. . . . . . . and feeding a lot of birds and squirrels.

  9. Wonderful photo - what fun to have the critters come to feast at your house. We have one squirrel that comes around - jumps into the bird bath and splashes around and then up to the deck railing to dry off in the sun.

  10. Great photo Mary!! The squirrels in our yard have been pretty naughty this summer! They have been trying to jump up into the birdbath and they keep knocking the top off. They have been laying all over our chairs outside, digging in my potted plants, chasing birds away trying to get up on the feeder past the baffle that is there to keep them out of the feeder, and just plain being naughty! I guess the heat brings out the worst in squirrels!!
