No-fly day, boo, hoo!

The best laid plans of mice and men, Murphy's Law, it never rains but it pours etc. etc.

Well there's not a drop of rain in the city today, the sun is shining and the mountains are clearly visible across the water from Paula's windows here high up on the hillside.  The airship is mechanically sound, the tickets are purchased, we are ready to fly!

Today was to be 'the big day' circled in red on the calendar.  The much awaited flight over the Bay area on the Zeppelin airship, Eureka.  Paula, Bob, and I were excited, especially as we couldn't do it when last scheduled in the Fall due to a last minute engine problem in the airship.  There are just three Zeppelins in the world, one in Germany, one in Japan, and this one based in California.............and it looks like we'll have to wait again before gracefully flying quietly over San Francisco and capturing those special photos to share. Tomorrow we fly to Hawaii as planned.

Oh yes, why are we not going today?  Well I'm glad you can't see our long faces and hear our disgruntled sighs......................Mr. President has decided to come to San Francisco this afternoon for a matter of national interest campaign fundraiser, and the air space is closed to all but Air Force One!  Enough said!

  1. Oh, you poor thing! I saw a tv programme recently that featured the German Zeplin.

I know it will be 3rd time lucky and what a treat to look forward to.

Have an amazing time in Hawaii Mary.

  5. Oh Mary how disappointed you all must be, especially as it was cancelled once before.
Those photos would have been 'out of this world'!!

Enjoy your Hawaii sojourn. We've always meant to stop off there on the way to France but somehow we find ourselves on the asian path more often, with stop offs in Europe.

  11. Now that is really maddening! It seems rather unnecessary to me to close the airspace for the President. As far as I know when the Queen flies anywhere she just gets on her plane and goes as does the Prime Minister. Have fun in Hawaii!

  12. Too bad, but now you can look forward to the flight on your way home. Also too bad about the air space closure, but given the high level of crazy in the country it's understandable.
